You can deposit, withdraw, and change gold with Wentworth once you have selected your vocation. You cannot transfer gold, however.
Characters up to level 8 can only store 1000 gold but levels 9 - 20 can store 2000. You can only take up to 1000 gold in your backpack when leaving for Mainland so any more should be deposited.
