A Varying Monster Spawn or a Shared Spawn is a spawn that generates Creatures from a predefined set of more than one creature. For example, a Dawnport varying monster spawn may select from a set of either a Troll-Trained Salamander or a Mountain Troll. Each time a creature spawns, the type is chosen from this set. This creates a more dynamic environment as strategies may not always apply depending on the selected creatures.

Some bosses also use this strategy. Players can influence their respawn chance by repeatedly killing the creatures around and waiting to see if the next spawn will be the desired boss instead of a regular creature. The list includes:

The Varying Monster Spawn system was implemented with the Summer Update 2014. The first areas where it was applied were Oramond and Dawnport.
