NPC Pictures

Hi Whitelaces, I got a question, what is our Wiki standard for adding pictures to a NPC site? Is it like some people do in the right e.g. Feizuhl‎ or like I do between the text e.g. Tezila. Actually it should be even better to add the pictures in the NPC template, but it's also better to first upload all NPC pictures to prevent ugly upload links on pages where a picture is needed. I hope you know a solution.

I think NPC pictures were never considered for the template, since they always look like something else in-game. All NPCs (that I can think of) use either a player model, or a creature model, so there's really no "new" information gained by adding a picture of an NPC.

I think that the original intent was to add NPC screenshots with some context, either showing part of their shop, or something about their location (like this picture of H.L. that Runefarmer uploaded).

That being said.... the answer to your question is no, there is current standard for npc picture placement.

We can certainly create a standard (and we should). I recommend that you post a message to TibiaWiki_talk:Standards to begin a discussion about it. When we get some more input, then we can adopt an official standard.

Hi again,

More than 2 weeks has passed since I started the discussion about NPC images on the Standars page. No one reacted on it (except for you). Still, I think it's important to hear the other users' opinion. How could I highlight this page so other users would react? Maybe put a small link on the main page or something (actually I can only view the source and not edit it). If you think I should wait another few weeks it's also ok. But I think I keep on going with my NPC picture program.

Well I notice Bone Beasts and other undead are not afected by Undead Dragon Drownwave, Beholders do die drowned 20 damage per turn by undead dragons, I think element after update is Ice and drown is diferent so if you think addind drownimmune is pointless tell me XD.
 Kwigon the sharpshooter   Talk   -November-30-2007.

Thanks for the reply to my message.

I'm not questioning whether or not it should be added... I just think there must be a better name for it.

What kind of damage does this "drown wave" cause? Is it earth damage? Is it ice damage?

Whichever one it is, we should use that name. The name "drownimmune" does not fit with the other immunities very well.

-- ave, Caesar, morituri te salutant
--  Whitelaces †  Talk †  -- 10:46, 30 November 2007 (PST)

You must be thinking I got that from test server I got it from global server is not ice or water damage, Is like some monsters are inmune to get burned or poisoned, you can't use soulfire in a DS or envenom in beholder, right now drown is only used by monsters as a damage per turn efect like burned or poisoned theres not drown attacks yet (or that I know abouth). Some monsters kill each other with drowning if you wait alittle you can let for example a undead dragon kill the other monster so you only have to fight him. After update there will be earth, ice, death damages... and drown don't belong to them. If you think for a better name I will change it. (drown is when you are under water right? or I'm misspelling it XD?)
 Kwigon the sharpshooter   Talk   -November-30-2007.

I understand the distinction you are making, but it still causes some type of damage.

There is a difference between a condition and a type of damage or effect of the condition. In your example of using Soulfire on a Demon Skeleton, the DS will not take any damage, because it is immune to fire, not because it is immune to the Soulfire rune.

In the same way, this "drowning" is a condition, and certain creatures are immune to the effect.

Maybe we're just pointlessly arguing semantics.

Before I concede, can you tell me if when a player is attacked by this "drown bomb" or "drown wave"... do they get that little water-drop condition, like when you take your helmet off under water?

I am having a hard time coming up with a better name for this, but it just seems like you can't "drown" on dry land. Maybe we can broaden it to "suffocation", instead of just drowning.

--  Whitelaces †  Talk †  -- 08:09, 5 December 2007 (PST), about copyright

Hi Whitelaces, I just looked on [] and saw they added an article on 1 December which is copied from Tibiwiki and translated in polisch. It's a copy of this page. Have they the right to just copy a page and pictures from us and not even linking the source? I can't read polish so I don't know if they changed things but it looked pretty much the same. What's your opinion about such things?

Wie niet slim is moet slim zijn
^^  º Bennie º  ¤ Talk ¤  ^^ 07:08, 1 December 2007 (PST)

I guess the short answer is... they didn't do anything to violate copyright law.

No copyrighted material should be put on this wiki without permission, therefore, it is generally safe to assume no copyright exists on any material on this wiki, with a few exceptions (screenshots from the game, text copied from official Tibia website, etc).

When someone copies text from any wiki without citing the source, then it is definitely Plagiarism, but to the best of my knowledge it is not a copyright violation.

I personally promote the availability of information, but I also firmly believe that information is more valuable when the source is known and accessible, not just for the purpose of crediting the original author(s).

I would really recommend that we take it as a compliment, even though it feels like an injustice.

Maybe you are right.. I shouldn't take it too bad. There are of course also other examples, like this one this dutch fansite took over our Hunting Places page and even lacked to translate everything correctly ;) I know such things happen and it isn't really against copyright because it's taken from a wiki.

New Spells

I was trying to help organizing the Winter Update 2007 and adding links for the spells, etc. But it seems that only 2 or 3 of them have really a page, and I wanted to help TibiaWiki, but I don't know how to create a page for a spell :( How can I create a page for a spell?

Oh nvm, I learned how to do it :) But now I need someone to put them in spell lists, in the tables that appear in bottom of spell pages, etc

Thanks for adding those pages! I think it would be best to wait until the update is released... then we can update the other templates.

That way we only need to update them once, and it will be accurate to what is in-game.

DPL on Runes page

I tried to convert the rune pages using the DPL list. However I'm not too good with that, and for some reason it didn't worked (I just tried on previews). Since some runes now might change with the update, using DPL would help.

Rashid (new trader in update)

apparently a lot of people are trying to abuse the wiki to scam people - constantly changing prices on Rashid's page.

So far these people have done this: DogZern Schnapie Jooky Eloelo Shnopp

perhaps it's a good idea to lock this page untill the update is there, with at least the real values there as they are now on the testserver.

this version is (as far as I can say) the one with the actual values

the tip with the boxes and pots is a realy great 1. just wanted to ad something to it. instead of using boxes is better to use trunks. A trunk has like 18 spots to fill so than u can create a pile that is larger than 10 pieces so the pots and the trash of the trunk it self will just be disapear. As u prolly know: only 10 pieces can be seen. So than u dont need a decco that is big enought to cover the trash and and pot.I did it like that on my balcon and it looks beautifull. It leave more options open this way on how u like to decco. under the main decco of my balcony, i have small things like 1 pearl 1 saphire 1 emeralds ect and than the pot. Raafke

Thanks for the message. I added it to the tip.

Yeah I was considering doing that before, just wasn't sure it was appropriate at the moment. The death element doesn't seem to be a significant one, unlike the new ice, etc. (which I might add is a redirect to the tile Ice, which I'll go ahead and change since it doesn't seem necessary.) I was wondering if I should upload images for the new death/dazzled/frozen statusicon, or the drown icon we've had since Calassa was introduced...

What about instead, keeping the "Death" page as it is, and placing the information about the element "death" on the page "Death (element)" or something like that, then making sure there is a cross reference between them?

It seems to me that the word "death" more accurately would refer to the actual act of dieing, and that the element "death" is something else.

Adding a new parameter for monsters.

With this new immune and weakness system added into Tibia I think it would be adequated if a new parameter could be added. Two, to be honest. Two parameters that would read as isstrong and isweak, whereas isstrong would denote the monster strongest resistance to the element and weak would show what element is the monster weak to.

A new parameter to weapons

Since now there is a new enchanting system, would be interesting to add a new parameter to weapon template. Enchante able: yes (not sure if is written like that :s)

The code would be something like: enchanteable = yes/no

PS: I'll try to help more with the wiki update, I don't know if it's just me, but the wiki nowadays is too lagged (maybe due the update), so it's hard for me to help these days.

-- † Pudd Knight †  Talk  Contribs  -- 11:39, 13 December 2007 (PST)

Sounds like a good idea. I'll go ahead and add that parameter for weapons... also, I'll add a "damagetype" to runes and spells.

About the wiki lag: yes, it is because of the update. There is a VERY large number of people viewing and editing the wiki right now, so it is going VERY slow. Just do what you can, and don't stress out about it too much.

Hey Bennie. I didn't change anything, but it looks like Erig upgraded the MediaWiki software to 1.11.0.

I'm not sure if this is what caused the change, but it looks like it simply stretches all pictures in a gallery to fill the thumbnail size. Have a quick read about the MediaWiki gallery tag on the Wikipedia page, it may have some answers for you about changing the image size in galleries: Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Gallery_tag.

Some bugs

I've saw some bugs, I'm not sure if its only here, but it was fine yesterday, today is messed.

On quest spoilers page the table of contents (toc) are somehow debugging, the whole spoiler is into the toc. I tried to fix it, but it's still messed (dunno if it's only here)

Also the spoiler tags are no longer working. Just to let you know, Im not sure how to fix it.

According to Nef, this is a known issue, and has not been resolved yet (last I heard). It is somehow related to the TOC, but I don't know any details.

Hi Whitelaces,

Maybe it's a bit dumb question but I want to report a problem about the spoiler tag which isn't working anymore on this wikia. Where do I report it so it comes on the report lis? This new wikia is a bit weird, I see edits not made by a username but by an IP adress. Isn't it neccesary to have an account to edit anymore?

Depending upon which skin you are using, there will be a "Report a Problem" link on the page.

With the latter update regarding the runes it is seen that you need a certain level and magic level to cast them. Kissing a Pig Quest

Since the content of the Kissing a Pig Quest has been added to TibiaWiki, there have been "edit wars" regarding if you need or not to kiss the Queen of the Banshees.

The page is now protected, but I have proven that you do not need to talk to that NPC to complete the quest. See the talk page.

I was wondering if you could edit the page, I don't really know if a Bureaucrat can do this, but you are the higher-ranked person I know in this Wiki, besides Erig. So could you edit the page and make the changes mentioned by me and Pudd Knight in the talk page?

Thanks, Rafa Mcallan.

Hunter of Dragoes made some fixes after the page was protected. Without reading through the talk page and comparing each section, did these edits correct the issues you discussed?

If not, please let me know specifically what still needs updated and I will fix it.

Attribute fields on DPLs

Hello. I've noticed that on the item infobox template, the "attrib" field is missing (or removed). While I was editing Rings page to DPL, I just thought that all the DPLs are too standard, and we could just use that Attribute field for something. On every ring I added some attribute (like a stealth ring will provide invisible while equiped). I just don't know exactly what to do to make this work with the DPL. Tell me if you can change this for me. Thanks.

-- † Pudd Knight †  Talk  Contribs  -- 09:04, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

For the time being, I added attrib to the DPL lists for items. You can see it on the Rings page.

Truly, I would prefer to find some way to split this up into more atomic parameters, but I understand that this is not possible for all things.

Anyway, I think this is what you were asking for.

--  Whitelaces †  Talk †  -- 15:44, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for adding that Whitey. I know that's not the best solution possible, I've thought also on splitting different information on different items, like quest items for example. But we'll need to make a new infobox to every "special case" like you did to Runes. This would give some hand work, but I think it's the best solution. It would solve that problem also of quest items that is stated here on ur talk page. If you wish to change this, just tell me, and I'll help u out with the edits that'll be needed.
