Equip set

I was watching now, my equipment set was using as weapon/shield sov + mms and the "defense" value was both of then. It has been prooven that the only defense that counts is the highest (in my case, mms) so the template should show only the highest defense, and do not show then both together. Is this possible?

-- † Pudd Knight †  Talk  Contribs  -- 23:23, 28 April 2007 (PDT)

I updated the SetDefense template to only consider the left and right hands, and to only take the greatest of the two values.

Let me know if it looks alright, or if I missed something.

A log page glitch?

What happened to the Special:Newpages? There isn't any page in there anymore O_o

-- Maverick the hunter ω talk ω contribs 18:09, 6 May 2007 (PDT)

I have never used this page before, so I guess I don't know how to troubleshoot the problem. Without looking at the code, I would guess that it is merely a list of pages sorted by their creation date.

It seems to work for different namespaces ("User" or "Talk" for example), but for some reason it does not list any new pages in the "Main" namespace. I do not know what is causing it to act this way.

If it is very important, I can look into it more, but if this is not a dire situation, then you can use the recent changes list to get similar functionality.

The user page templates

It seems they are overflowing. Perhaps Template:Equips_Set could be changed to Template:Equips_Set_Basic, as stats are not shown on the pages anyway. --Ville-v 06:40, 7 May 2007 (PDT)

I agree. The pages would load much faster, and would not cause as many other problems.

Food by regen per gold

Hi ya Whitelaces. I've been trying to work on an idea suggesed by User:Zain but have been experiencing problems. I had to make a new template (Template:Infobox Item/List/Food2‎) to test the work I had been doing in my sandbox (which you can check here: User:Uno time/Sandbox. The problem is I had been trying to use the npcvalue which is not the value we are looking for. Is there any possible way to apply the lowest selling price from the 'buyfrom' list without taking all the other information with it? I don't know how to do this by myself but I'd be more than willing to help with it. My msn is - it may be a little easier to talk with you there. Thanks for your help! ~ Uno time

We would need to add another parameter to the items template.

Just as "npcvalue" is the best price an npc buys an item for, I think it would be valuable to also indicate the best price an NPC sells an item for. I will go ahead and add it to the template.

Then it is just a matter of updating the items pages to add the new value. Check the Infobox_Item template for details [1].

--  Whitelaces †  Talk †  -- 06:07, 8 May 2007 (PDT)

That worked fantastically Whitelaces. I do have a slight problem, in the regain/gold column, many of the values are showing up as "Division by zero." This makes sense but is there any way to change "Division by zero" into "N/A" or something like that. This is also similar to the Carrot of Dooms display in the regain/gold column of "?". You can check the display so far here. Thanks again! ~ Uno time

You were checking the weight for a valid value instead of the npcprice. I changed the template so that it would work as you expected.

--  Whitelaces †  Talk †  -- 11:16, 8 May 2007 (PDT)

Awesome! It worked perfectly! After I finish reordering everything I think it can be made into a working page. Thanks a bunch! ~ Uno time

It looks pretty good, but you may consider re-ordering it backwards... placing the "best" ones at the top of the page, and all the question-marks at the end. This way, you can glance at the top of the list and see the "best" foods to buy, instead of scrolling halfway down to get this info.

-- Omnis Minervae homo Petronius.
--  Whitelaces †  Talk †  -- 12:15, 8 May 2007 (PDT)

Alrighty I'll do that in a bit :) Should the question-mark foods be listed from most regen to least as well (IE have fire mushrooms at the top of the question-mark foods and carrot of doom and orange mushroom at the very bottom of the list)? Thanks for the input ~ Uno time

The order of the "?" foods doesn't matter for that list. Either sort them by regen seconds, or maybe by name.

New variable to quest templates: Minimum amount of players needed to complete

I think the topic says it all. It would be handier to browse new quests to do at Quests page when knowing what quests one can solo. --Ville-v 07:26, 13 May 2007 (PDT)

That would be strange, let's take PoI as an example... theorically, you can do everything solo.. of course doing it solo is a nonsense, and maybe nearly impossible, but not completely impossible... but it would help with quests like desert quest, minimum 4 people.. or just write down on the topic like a "recomendation".. "It's recomended to have a big party of people for this quest"

-- Xellos φ Contributions φ Talk 14:14, 13 May 2007 (PDT)

Oh.. my bad xP

Well but there are some quests that are hard, and theorically you can solo.. and PoI, for example, theorically 4 people are enough, but it's just a nonsense to go PoI quest with 4 members.. ;P

-- † Pudd Knight †  Talk  Contribs  -- 20:08, 13 May 2007 (PDT)

Yea, I get your point and I agree with a "recommendation" which could be in 3 categories. Like "a team recommended", "can be done solo" and a fixed number like "4" for the Desert Quest.
-- Xellos φ Contributions φ Talk 00:16, 14 May 2007 (PDT)

That would be "recommend amount of players needed to complete", which is very relative amount. What I am suggesting, is required amount, for example if quest needs 2 people, the value is 2. Even if 2 people at minimum level could not complete it, 2 people at level 300 could.

We do already have "minimum level", which is level people could theoretically participate quest, "players required" would be similar. --Ville-v 07:17, 14 May 2007 (PDT)

I have thought about how to incorporate this information into the quest template, and I think that the best solution is to just put it in the spoiler under "Required Equipment" or somewhere near the beginning of the spoiler page. Since there are so few quests that have a "number of players" requirement, I think it would only clutter the template for all of the other quests.

Ville-V is clearly trying to star anoughther edit war with me, i am posting this here so hopefully you or someone else can mediate the discussion without there being an edit war. and on a side note, i find that 90% of the edits by Ville-V are aggressive and disrespectful at least.

"Edit war"? If somebody is intentionally making idiotical edits, I consider my responsibility as contributor of TibiaWiki to revert them. --Ville-v 07:39, 16 May 2007 (PDT)

First of all, Disaster, it does not appear that Ville-v was trying to start an edit war. He simply disagreed with you that those particular pieces of information should be blocked-off as spoiler information. Wikipedia incorporates the idea of a Three-revert rule, which is a clear and simple method to identify "edit wars". Basically, what I'm saying is that any change to an article can turn into an edit war, and almost all edit wars begin as honest contributers trying to improve an article. In this situation, I do not see the evidence that ville was trying to pick a fight with you or anyone else.

Secondly, Ville, while reverting those edits were not wrong, your comments surrounding this event were unnecessarily rude and belittling. You came across as being quite upset, and I do not see the justification for it. Please try to remain objective when making edits and comments on this wiki. There is nothing to be gained by taking personal offense to anything that anyone does in this context, and you will be received much more readily when your demeanor is more pleasant.

In conclusion, this confrontation has obscured the actual issue that began this discussion, and I hope that you will both be able to come to some compromise or conclusion in a reasonable and impersonal manner. If necessary, I will break out my "admin stick of forced submission to my will" and beat you both silly  ;)

New suggestion about spoiler blocks

User:Disaster monteiro (a hunting disaster) opened my eyes, and now I know what is quest spoiling and what is not.

What I am suggesting it adding spoiler blocks by default to following places:

  • Dropped by-sections of item pages,
  • Loot-sections of monster pages,
  • Buy from- and Sell to-sections of item pages.

Contents of those sections may be considered quest spoil by somebody, so better take care everything in them is inside spoiler block. If that won't be done, maybe pages of monsters and items could be removed competely from the wiki because they may spoil something? --Ville-v 07:52, 16 May 2007 (PDT)

I understand the point you are trying to make, but this is not an appropriate place or method for expressing your point of view on this topic.

Please begin this discussion in a more appropriate location, and in a more genuine and rational manner.

--  Whitelaces †  Talk †  -- 12:48, 16 May 2007 (PDT)

The wiki is somehow a spoil to everything on Tibia, if you search a Mace for example, you're going to check it's value (price), attack, defense, notes, etc. If someone would like to see only some info like atk/def he would search on others supported fansites, the wiki, at least for me, is like a place where you find EVERYTHING about something, people that search here know that he'll see spoiled things..

For me, the spoiler blocks and spoiler pages are only "protocol", cuz I think NO ONE would search "anihhilator" and see the first page and don't click on "show" spoiler. And for spoiler tags too, I think 99% clicks on there to check the spoiler. I think this is what ppl that visit the wiki wants to.

I think it's completely unnecessary to spoil everything, but it's just my humble opinion...

-- † Pudd Knight †  Talk  Contribs  -- 18:50, 16 May 2007 (PDT) sighs ... i ask him not to revert my edits and talk about it, he reverts them anyways ... i personally would like to re-revert the pages but i cant see the point as ville will do what he always does, which is revert pages until he is cautioned by an admin or the other person gives up. whitelace i didnt want to have to bring this here and make a big deal over a small edit, but i am just incredibly frustrated and i feel talking to ville is an imense waste of time

I have to agree with Pudd. It seem Disaster want to put everything as a spoiler. Trading items for Gold like a dead rat just does not seem right to be treated as part of a spoiler. I just do not see any quest involved, except the quest for Gold.

--  Slug the third   Talk  Contriutions   23:57, 16 May 2007 (PDT) i think some poeple are getting a bit carried away, i dont want a spoiler on everything, the rat trading thing is listed as a quest is it not? and the amazon items are a tibia mystery wich i would consider a quest, if we dont consider that quest spoiling thats fine, but please stop talking trash about me please, im not putting spoilers on everypage. keep in mind that i only want to make the wiki a better place for everyone and im not just making edits because im bored or looking for confrontation (like some i wont mention)

A few things that I am worrying about

With this new update, I am afraid that these latter conflicts amongst the editors might rise to the surface and this might become the stage of a serious edit war. I have reworded few of the new information about the update and added the {{futureupdate}} template in the pages. I am aware that there will have a lot to add and I am willing to do it at no cost at all, but please I would kindly ask you to try and neutralise the rivalry among the editors who have been engaging in edit wars over the last weeks. (I have been watching, but not editing).

Thanks in advance White,

^^  º Bennie º  ¤ Talk ¤  ^^ 04:21, 19 May 2007 (PDT)

There's been more discussing than actual editting...

I didn't say that I would start an edit war. I am worried that with the new update large influx of revisions, somebody might get pissed off and engage in three revert rule violation. I have seen that the edit wars ceased for now, but I do have the right to express my fears, as I have witnessed the edit wars happening for a lot minor reasons.

This issue comes up with every new update. The best way to handle it is to be persistent in correcting information, and to make a "good" structure and organization for the information so that it is easy to understand the best way to add information to the wiki.

The rules we have decided to enforce on this wiki apply, even during a game update. Anyone that violates the rules will receive the repercussions they have earned. When it all starts to go down, just be patient and vigilant. Everything will pan out eventually.

Since there is no spoiling information on the quest pages, they will sometimes show up in the "Random Page." None of the pages in the Quest spoiler pages category should ever show up, though. This is how it was intended to work.
