NPCs pic test

I like your idea for adding pictures for NPCs into the template. It was tried before, but did not work do to many revisions of that template. I think what would be best is to make a copy of the present template, incorporate NPC images in it and just apply it to cities which have all/most of their NPCs on the wiki. There may be a problem with two templates, but my mind is not letting me know what that may be right now... if it does not work then just keep up the pictures, it is very good work.

@ your NPC images upload

Hello Bennie. I've checked some of your recent uploaded gifs. I've saw also that they're using a poor quality. What program do you use to make your gifs?

Just compare the images like on Jason (your upload) and Sven (my upload). I think you're using some editor that make you lose the quality of the image, it's looking like a jpg. I will give you some hints, maybe you can improve the images with that.

  • Always disable the shrink option on Tibia Client to get a screenshot. This will make you to have a standard size to get a screenshot (I bet you already do that). If you're not doing it already, do it. Never EVER re-size the size of the NPC in the image editor you're using (no matter wich one), this is a terrible option and it'll always make it look different from the in-game sprite.
  • Always get the picture from the NPC using utevo gran lux or utevo vis lux (if you can) so the light will be perfect. If you cannot do that, wait until it's full day time on tibia to get a screenshot.
  • If you're using Photoshop (any version), get the print screen from the game and directly edit on photoshop, remove the background and use the option "Save for web" and select a gif. You must use only 1 layer to do that, so delete the old "background" layer before you save it, else you will have some difficulties to remove the background.
  • Never EVER use softwares such as MS Paint, 3rd parties gif animators, etc, to make your gif images. They'll make you lose a lot of the quality.
  • If you're not using Photoshop, and if you can, I highly suggest you to start using it for such work.

I hope this help you out with your NPC research :)

Thanks for the tips! Most of them I already do I think. I wrote an article how I actually do this work Help:Screenshot Guide. I make the ss, paste it in paint, edit it with the Gimp. I don't know if that's a photoshop. To make it transparent I do Layer --> transperancy --> add Alhpachannel. If I eraze after that it will become transperant. Then I eraze the background away. First with big erazer, then with 1px big erazer. Then I save it with the Gimp as a .gif file. When I do that a pop-up appears: GIG plug-in can only handle grayscale or indexed images. I choose to convert to indexed standard vailues which is default. Do you know where my pictures loose their quality from this story?

I never used this editor. Photoshop is already the name of the software created by Adobe. I'm not sure where you loose your quality, I'll try to research that for you, but it's probably when you save the file. Also, removing the background with a eraser must be really difficult :P, if you try out Photoshop you'll notice it's a lot easier.

I'll research abt this program and if I find something, I'll leave a message for you later

-- † Pudd Knight †  Talk  Contribs  -- 18:21, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

I looked for Adobe Photoshop and found this: Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended. It costs: € 1,605.31 which is a bit expensive :) Maybe I can download the trial version but I hope the good quality is also possible with Gimp. I also thought of another option, maybe I loose the quality when saving it in Paint. When I paste it to paint I select the area with the NPC and copy it to a destination, it becomes .jpg by default then (in windows vista) but in windows xp it always was .bmp So maybe .bmp has a higher quality than .jpg.
What did you mean with Photoshop it will be easier than an eraser? I know some programs have a function to 'magically select an area depending on colour'. For now I will wait for your research :)

Hello. Sorry, I did not researched yet about Gimp, my graphic card is broken, I've purshased another one and I'm waiting it to arrive. I'm not even playing Tibia these days, because I cannot use anything that need too much graphics. Well, abut the Photoshop, the CS3 is the most new (and expensive) version. You can download older versions. I've purshased and old version for a very cheap price. I'm not sure if you can download a trial version. But if you search well I'm sure you'll find it ;).

Well, photoshop have a lot of tools, and mostly make your life easier. You must see to understand it. Also, I'm using windows XP. But try to Print Screen from Tibia and already edit it on Gimp. I'm not sure if it's possible, but do NOT paste it on ms paint, save, and later edit elsewhere. If you do, save on BMP or PNG. If you save using JPG or GIF you'll lose the quality. About your question, yes, JPG have less quality than BMP, but the size of the BMP file is way bigger. Nowadays you can use PNG format. Have the same quality and less size.

Images not showing up

You reported several of the pages with DPL lists because the image did not show up. The templates had been updated, but where you do not see the images is still using the old template. To fix them do this: Change the first line
"{{Infobox_Object{{if|test={{{1|}}}|then=/{{{1}}}}}|GetValue={{{GetValue|}}}|"
with this line
"{{Infobox_Object|List={{{1|}}}|GetValue={{{GetValue|}}}|"
. You can see the only difference is some code in the middle needs to be changed, then it is all fixed. I can try to fix some, but do not have a lot of time. Ask others to help if you need it. :)

Naming Signs

02:12 You see a sign.
You read: Depot Tower
Ab'Dendriel's 'Wall Sign', however you already made a set of "Signs". I'll let you figure out what to name it if you feel it needs changing.
Sixorish ~~ Talk ~~ Contribs

I don't really get what you mean. Do you mean, the correct name for Wall Sign (Depot) should be Wall Sign (Depot Tower) because that is what you get when you look at it? I went through (almost) all free account cities to get those pictures of the signs and on almost every sign appeared another message when you looked at it. Mostly commercially influenced with shops (like Nezil and Bezil: buy your equipment here!) So I try to choose names which apply to all signs and not only to one of 1 town. Feel free to explain yourself better or give other suggestions.

^^  º Bennie º  ¤ Talk ¤  º My Contributions º  ^^ 20:02, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

What I mean is, regardless of their towns, they're always "Sign" and not "Wall Sign", so the correct name (should) be "Sign (Depot)", problem is some pages are already taken.

My Reply to your Comment

Winter Wolf

Yes, Yes, but they are reptiles more than lizards, Wyverns are in no way dircetly related to the Lizard race, and now than we have broader categories to categorize them it makes more sense to but them in the reptile misc category, as it looks rather silly where it is.

And as far as the Shenlong, we dont need to delete it, if I may take a quote from myself on the Shenlong talk page [1]:

"Since the Shelong can be seen in an offical screenshot, as far as I can see it is a real weapon, weather or not its named the Shenlong Sword, if its looted from an Undead Dragon, if its stats are what are stated, or if it was ever looted is all up in the air, but I can say for certain that the Shenlong is a real weapon."

I rest my case. ^_^

Bow The Wolf Paladin Wolf Tooth Chain

Btw- Bennie its really rude to bite someones head off just because they disagree with you. I suggest you take a closer look at what a person has to say before going off on them.

I agree the head class is reptiles. It's already like that on the page Wyvern:

| creatureclass = Reptiles
| primarytype = Lizards

So I think that's ok. And for the Shenlong, maybe you're right to remove the delete tag. Like saying: it's right until proven wrong.' The desputed tags will sta, we still aren't 100%. As for 'biting your head off'. I never intended to do such a thing, my apologies if you felt it that way. I just reacted and gave my opinion :)

NPC Images

If I get you a screenshot of the missing NPCs, can you make a proper image to be used on wiki of that?
If so, what exactly do I need to do? Cast a light spell I presume, and turn off the stretching/shrinking?

Temahk 10:31, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Wow that would be great! For the light it is best to wait till tibia day, or if it's underground cast utevo gran lux or even utevo vis lux. For the quality the stretching needs to be turned on, your window will probably become smaller. I have a few tips and stuff written here: Help:Screenshot Guide. If you give one screenshot first, I can say if it's good or not. Please don't use the .jpg format but .gif or .png of .bmp instead. Keep up the good work!

About Screenshots using Illegal Programs

I'm not sure, because I'm a newcomer here, but take a look there: http://tibia.wikia.com/wiki/Image:Madareth.jpg

Seems like to be shot while someone was using TibiaNG.

Signed,

               Lucas

Brucas Shacklebolt 05:37, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

What makes you think the screenshot maker used TibiaNG? I never used this program so I don't know what the effect on the screenshot is when using TibiaNG.

^^  º Bennie º  ¤ Talk ¤  º Credits º  ^^ 09:03, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

I think he means the tower on the left. Those towers normally don't have HP bars nor a name above them. Several programs edit the client in a way the name and HP bar do show up. This is of course against the Tibia Rules.

Temahk 10:04, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Personally I don't know what to do with it. Because you can hardly see the tower name I don't think it really influences the picture and therefore there should be done nothing. But I don't know.

Left a message for you here regarding the NPC Template.

Temahk 16:45, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Again

Well, what I was trying to say is:

Using TibiaNG, you can see floors above and under you.

Seems to be shotted using TibiaNG, because the player does not appears on the centre of the screen, and the Tibia screen is not big enough to support more pixels to >>

And we can't see any fight signs, like blood on the floor.

Articles in other languages

Hello Bennie! I've seen you have been editing the main page of the another language wikis adding the tag that lead to the English version. I'm starting to link the articles in here with the articles on pt.tibia (see Bug). What do you think to add on the next Tip of the Month something related to this feature? Senna 16:52, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

If you want the ability to go to the other language wiki's on every page, you have to add tose tags on every page. I don't think that's neccesary, so only the main pages should have those tags to other language wiki's. I think I can write a tip about that.

^^  º Bennie º  ¤ Talk ¤  º Credits º  ^^ 08:59, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

You are right, editing every article would be an extra work, I will then just add it on the most important and most requested articles, such Quests, Allusions and so. Senna 11:50, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

That is why people use "interwiki bots", they automaticly add a language link if the article exists in both languages (on both wikis).
