Tip Writers

If anyone has an idea for a tip, please post here and I will write it up, or you can write one up yourself.

Of all of the "featured" things on the main page, the tips seem to be the most difficult to add, so any help you can offer would be appreciated.

Monthly

Maybe we should make the tips a monthly sections, because it is very hard to make new tips.

I vote for monthly Edwin de waterman  => Talk <=  Profile ·_· Contribs <·> 03:51, 23 October 2006 (PDT) <·>

I guess it was too ambitious to think that other people would write more tips. Monthly is a good idea. The other "featured" things on the page should stay weekly.... unless they start to fall behing, too.

I re-added the tips to the mainpage. for a couple months I have been struggling to find a way to determine if an articles exists, and to display different text.... the new parser functions take care of that beautifully!

March 2008 Tip

I was considering making a tip on how to make the wiki (kind of) easier to search, I've only tried it on firefox, so I'm not sure if it works on other browsers...tell me what you think:
Edit: turns out an easier idea was put in place

My Tip

Have you noticed how when your talking to someone in private. And all your spells end up spamming the channel?
Well, This is a tip on how to make it so your spells and hotkeys don't show up in your private chat window!

  1. Open up your Hotkeys (Ctrl + K)
  2. Before your spells put #s (Spell)

For Example:
#s Exura
#s exori gran
#s exevo gran mas flam "" I Keeeeel you alll!!!

It's not your tip, you just rewrote Sixorish's tip, the tip's credit must be to Sixorish.

No.

I wrote that tip on the 9th of Dec.
Sixorish saw it and put it on list for Jan 2009 under his name.
I kind of find it offensive that you assume I copied Sixorish, when infact Sixorish found my tip. And put it on the Jan 2009 Tip mistakenly in his name. Don't assume. Look at the post dates. Yuki Zou 11:50, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

where did I copy from? looking back at your contribs I can't see it. Not to start a fight, or anything... -- Sixorish 12:14, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Well. I wrote my tip here on the 9th of Dec. Because I saw the "contribute!" Tip of the month and decided to submit my "#s" Tip because I've been using it for nearly a year and its a great help.

A few days after I posted my tip here. I saw it Scheduled for the Jan 2009 Tip. And I assumed you saw my tip and added it. Although it was added under your name....

And then Hunter of Dragoes claimed that I copied. Which I find quite offensive. You ask people to contribute, and when I did you cut me down.

Just a question Yuki, did you thought of this tip or added it somewhere else before this contribution of you? The wiki logs everything you do in history pages, so it is easy to have proof in this kind of situations. Also, remember the wiki is about doing things together, just forget the whole thing I-need-to-have-credits-for-my-own-work and enjoy working together with people all over the world. I don't know how you experience this, but being part of the community here is one of the most important factors for me to keep contributing. ^^ Bennie (talk ~ fellows) ^^ 06:10, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

"I wrote my tip here on the 9th of Dec.", and Sixorish wrote on 1st of Dec. See the history page.

I would rather this not turn into some war, if it's it's that bad just let him add his name, if he did think of it and did not intend to copy me, he deserves as much credit as I. -- Sixorish 14:04, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

ideas for tips

windows vista spoken hotkeys

I don't use windows vista so i can not write this tip, but i saw this idea in the technical suport board on tibia.com. Here one guy claimed that the windows vista have a voice recognition software that allow users to just speak a text and it write down for you, and he says that it also work on hokteys. By example instead press F1, he just say "F1" and windows press that key making the spell for him. It looks reasonably to me, but the guy was scared this could be caught by the anti-bot tool and asked there if it was against the rules. the majority of the comunity replyed there said it was not against the rules since there was not a software doing anything by itself, because the player had to make a action to cast the spell. I also think it is inside the rules and could be a good tip for the vista users, maybe it was even possible to record the spells itself in the voice recognition software, like, instead say "F1" to windows vista press F1 hk, you tell windows vista that F1 is "UHP", then you say "UHP" and vista press F1 and use it on you.

This is just my idea, but unless someone have windows vista and is willing to use his time, can't go further than this.

Ps.The odd thing is that noone from Cip gave a reply on that post, i even wonder if that has anything to do with how the anti-bot toll detect botters, like a hk beeing used without the corresponding action in the keyboard? prob this is just a nonzence from me.

Another Idea for tip of the month. I also don't have windows 7, but in Technical Support Board have many threads saying [ http://forum.tibia.com/forum/?action=thread&threadid=2709590 Windows 7 don't work with tibia]. But then there is a easy way to make it work on windows 7, just run it in compatibility mode. But attention is not enought to try to open tibia on compatibility mode, on more than 1 thread people have stated that you also have to ??install?? using compatibility mode. Never saw that, but they say if u install without compatibility mode some files are not installed and tibia crashes when u open, even if try open on compatibility mode.

Other issue posted on technical board was that windows 7 comes with DirectX10, so if u try use DirectX9 u might get debug, so use OpenGl or DirectX5 would be ok, but i guess this is solved in the compatibility mode too.

Another tip i found out when reading the technical suport board was how to kill stalkers cheap after the update where u cant shot missiles on then. This is specialy good for free accounts. If interest see this post.

Another tip of the month might be about the elemental spheres quest (see post about it here) some players said that they couldn't loot the final boss, then another player said that you can only open the loot from the final boss before use the obsidian knife on it to get the neutral matter.
