- Not to be confused with The Hive, part of the Demon Forge.
This insect infected island was implemented in the Winter Update 2011. It is located north of Quirefang, the land of which the Hive Born reside. In this desolate area you can expect to face many of the insects which live here.
The War Against The Hive Quest takes place here.
Environment[]
The hive is a living insect nest situated at the northern part of Quirefang. The hive is also the only habitat of many insect species. It is uncertain how these creatures came to be, but they seem to play a role in the subsistence of the hive. The hive itself coordinates with the insect inhabitants through the Hive Antennas. According to the official bestiary, Kollos are responsible for the construction and destruction of massive hive structures, Spidris are used for waste disposal, Spitters assist with the erection and reparation of structures, and Waspoids act as scouts. The purpose of Swarmers and Crawlers is less understood, the latter however seems to assist in many roles.
Layout[]
The hive is a large part of the land with 3 significant structures. To the south is a large Crawler habitat. To the east is the stomach of the hive, and finally to the north is the largest hive structure, housing most of the hive's elite troops. The latter is of the most interest because it is the only place you will find Kollos, Spidris, Hive Overseers as well as the various Hive Born Bosses that rarely show themselves.
Northern Structure[]
The northern structure is split into two halves: east and west towers. The eastern tower is the weaker of the two and the first to be unlocked when the hive is weakened; in this tower the elite troops are found on the top floors. The western tower is unlocked when the hive is significantly weakened; in this tower the elite troops appear on all floors. In addition, the western tower has the Hive Dungeon with masses of Hive Overseers as well as the random bosses. In both of these towers on all floors there exist Hive Gates—gates that may be passed by those wearing insectoid pheromones. Beyond all of these gates is a special object: Insectoid Cell— which each can be used to obtain one Gooey Mass. The hive towers both extend 7 floors high, as well as one floor under the western tower, meaning it is possible to obtain up to 15 Gooey Masses. This process, however, can only be done once per week.
