Library and stuff

Since Library is on the first page articles i do not see any reason to have the sub libraries on the first page as well. Also i was wondering whether or not NPCs and/or Quests should yet be added. NPCs is not complete and there was disagreement to the quest spoiling issue so should it go on. --DM ><((°> Contribs <°))>< talk to me 14:43, 31 Aug 2005 (EDT)

I would like to see a uniform use of the terms 'character', 'player' and 'owner'. Sometimes the player = owner, sometimes the player = character. I think it is good to choose one option and keep it strict in al articles, it is the base of a good Wiki. Borr Henceforth 21:05, 1 Mar 2005 (CET)

Graveyards

Is it a possible to put Graveyards on main page? Jura 23:10, 10 July 2006

I think that would be alright. The article is mostly complete, and it is also something that is unique to the wiki (I have not seen a tibia graveyard page on any other website... only one or two graves listed).

I'll go ahead and add it, but if someone has any good reasons that it shouldn't be there, post here and it may be removed later.

Using the phrase "Patrolled Edits" is a little misleading. In mediawiki terms, patrolling edits means something different (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Patrolled_edit).

Also keep in mind that reviewing recent edits is an on-going process. As long as users edit the wiki, there will need to be admins reviewing those edits.

Keep up the good work!

rookstayers support

Don't you think we should have more support for those people who love Rookgaard so much? like maybe adding information on how to get every item in rook, or how to get all of the food items.

Not really necessary as all the information is here in bits - they'd have to find it first.

The sorta "Rook-portal" for TibiaWiki is the page for Rookgaard. The best thing to do would be to make sure that the Rookgaard page has good organized links to all of the rook-specific information. Really, this is the best way to have it with the current limitations of MediaWiki.

Right now the Rookgaard page is pretty long and partially organized, but with some effort, it could be a great resource for "rookstayers."

-- WhitelacesTalk † χρισtoς αnεσtη, αληθως αnεσtη -- 11:43, 27 November 2006 (PST)

Could it get confusing if we add sub pages for the Rookgaard page, for example Rookgaard/Food and Rookgaard/Weapons that only show information relating to Rookgaard? This way we could make the Rookgaard-article shorter and more organised.

→  « Alreth »  « Talk »  « Contributions »  ← 10:29, 11 January 2007 (PST)

That's kinda what I had in mind with my previous comment here, but I would want to get some more feedback before moving ahead with it.

If the Rookgaard page gets more organized, and is still too long to be useful, then I fully support the idea of making some of these "rook-specific" pages, but just don't go crazy. To some degree this will be duplicating information, and that means it will require more effort to keep it all updated and accurate.

Why is it so that the main page shows the date of "Most Recent Updates" dec 13, even though as I'm writing it's dec 15th. When I logged in here it suddenly changed to dec 15. Userpages

Hi all, the site looks nice. But I have an idea which might make the site even better. More and more people are making userpages, but the only way you can reach them is by searching. How about adding "userpages" to the menu on the left (under browse)?

I'm not sure about making a link for it, but you can easily get a list of all user pages by going to this "Special" page:

Once there, just change the dropdown to the "User" namespace, and it will list all user pages in the wiki.

Do you like them? Do they need to be replaced by something else? Do we need to change how they work?

I think the tips should stay, but I am wondering about the featured items, creatures and npcs. Should we change it to a "random" item/creature/npc? Should we remove them entirely and replace them with something else on the main page?

I personally like how it is at the moment - though a random-ified npc monster item would be cool - save people haveing to update them manually. I don't like the front page articles I find them to be useless and I think we need a link to the sandbox on the frontpage. Also Like to see a link to Djinn Items there I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds it difficult to find a list of djinn sellable items. Could we increase the recent edits to 20 rather than 10? Also why is the border to the green box red? How bout a random image and or a random book - now that we have a large library i think it's more than useful to have it.How bout a random users contribution list (if it's even possible)? If you're thinking of changing the layout look around all the foreign wikipedias the french polish and nertherlands layouts are divine.

That's all i can think of for now

I think featured NPCs, Items and Creatures should stay but Featured Article could be deleted. A random system isn't much fun, I think a system which shows the most recent made NPC/Item/Creature is better (if this is possible). Instead of Featured Article there could be Featured User (just joking ^^). No, I don't know with what it should be replaced. Enough feedback.

Since the page is protected, I would like to suggest an admin to change some little things:

  • In the Popular Articles, add a link to Items and Quests. Also, move the Runes link to alphabetic order.

Quests page should be added, even if it contain some spoiler info, everyone know that most people come here to get information for some quests. Also this page does not provide any real spoiler. I've also added a warning on the page, so there won't be a problem. Items page are another article that is very hot and should be added. And Runes moving, just to be standardized.

problem reports

Not sure where else to place this, as i'm not familiar with this wikis admins, and who is active and who is not. Could 1 or more of the active admins please take a look at Special:ProblemReports. This wiki has a lot of reports and many are fairly old. It takes someone with knowledge of the game content to be able to make these decisions.

If you make changes to the article (or it as since been fixed by someone else) mark it as "Fixed". If the report is bogus/unfounded/incorrect, mark it with "Closed". If it something related to the wiki software that is beyond your control, use the "Need Staff help".

To help keep ontop of this, there is a "Problem reports" widget admins (or anyone) can place in your sidebar, to see them as they get reported.

If you have any more questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page.

--Uberfuzzy 18:54, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Greetings Uberfuzzy, the wikia problem report system is also fairly new for me. I have looked at it a few days ago and solved a few problems. However, as you already mentioned there are a lot of reports about incorrect content. I have fixed the problems I could fix. And for the reports that need to be checked I have created a talk page template for the article it belongs to. Note that it is better to follow the standard I've set, rather than you proposed because the "Need Staff help" (AFAIK) is for wiki admins and wikia janitors/staff. For the standard and the template please see {{contentreport}}. Suggestions can be made on it's talk page. --Edwin de waterman 18:13, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Glad to finally get a response. Hi, sorry, I forgot to introduce my self, I'm one of the Gaming Team Helpers. We're trying to get the old reports closed and cleared out as quite often, they are no longer an issue (such as incorrect content or vandalism that as been cleaned up by the Janitor team). Dont worry about using the "need staff help" if it needs it, such as if its a problem with the servers or skins thats not fixable by the admins. The helpers also try to clean up the "need staff help" reports, or atleast better forwarding them to the proper people. About that template, marking it "closed" is the effective same as "fixed", one just has different meaning to the person. fixed implies that someone took care of the problem, where as closed is more of it wasnt a problem or was a false/junk (such as "this sword sucks"). We've also been known to do a similar thing and take the content of the message and transfer it to the talk page, and close the report. If you have any questions, my talk page is open to you. I also have this page on watch. --Uberfuzzy 18:34, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Modified Main Page design

Hi everyone!

My name is Kyle, and I'm a member of the Wikia Gaming Team. As you may have noticed, we recently made some changes to the Monaco skin. If you haven't already, check out all the details on the change w:Wikia's New Style. In order to make sure that everything continues to work properly, there are two things that must be done:

  1. Ensure you have a 135x155px logo at Image:Wiki.png. The old Wiki_wide.png is no longer used. It looks like you're covered there, so you don't have to worry about this one.
  2. Update your main page column formatting code with new column tags. This will ensure that your main page will not break when we add the new ad unit.

Your homepage is already using a pretty standard 2-column layout, so this shouldn't be too much of a problem. I went ahead and drafted an updated copy of your current Main Page at User:KyleH/Dev. Please take a look at it and if you think it will work for you, go ahead and copy it to your main page. If there are any things that need to be adjusted, feel free to make the changes yourself, or give me a yell and I'll be happy to help you.

Speaking of Monaco, it's been a while the discussion began about Monaco on the Community Portal. Have you given any more consideration to changing the default skin for anonymous users to Monaco? The current default skin is Quartz, and, while we are continually improving and adding new features to Monaco, we are no longer adding new features to Quartz.

I'm sorry for the extra work, but I'm here to help make the change as easy as possible.

Thanks! --KyleH (talk) 19:34, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Hey everyone! Since no one has commented on this, I went ahead and applied the modified 2-column design to the homepage. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns! --KyleH (talk) 21:17, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Under IE and 640x480 right column now shows on top of the rest of page (header and left column). With 800x600 and higher res. it's ok.
--wilk 23:09, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

I have updated the code (with the left column first), added comments into the code and done a little column balancing. Regarding 640x480 - that's just not a resolution that can be supported. 1024 is the general minimum resolution for modern web design, though 800x600 will still be looked at. 640x480 is way too restrictive. Kirkburn (talk) 16:25, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

I will give my opinion about this change. When we, tibiawiki, moved to wikia we got promised nothing would have to be changed. Since the move you , wikia staff, makde some skin changes. I don't regret those changes, the latest monaco skin is awesome. But I do regret those ads. When I'm browsing tibiawiki I don't want advertisement about e.g. World of warcraft. I actually don't want ads at all. that's my opinon.

Kirkburn, we won't unprotect the Main Page. I rollback your edit with "comments" to noob users. About your "little column balancing": I think the How to Contribute column is better under About TibiaWiki column.
Bennie, I agree with you, I hate those ads but I use the good old CologneBlue skin, so I don't see any ad.

<·> Hunter of Dragoes <·> My Talk <·> My Contributions <·> 16:43, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

I also think the Main page should be protected. We had quite a lot of vandalism last month(s). Also, those links to other languages, like pt:. I don't really get it, it just stays a red, dead link for me. I know this is different in other skins, those links aren't really supported/implemented in the Monaco skin, I can't find them at least.

^^  º Bennie º  ¤ Talk ¤  º Credits º  ^^ 19:47, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

The interlanguage links are not skin related (and appear on the "languages" widget in the sidebar on Monaco). I will ask for pt to be added to the list as well (a whole bunch of others were added a few days ago). The column orders need to be switched for an upcoming code update - this is good for you, as it means the primary column will come first in the code, and therefore first in search engines. For the column balancing, I respect your stance and won't change it again. However, this means the columns are still severely unbalanced.
Of course none of us want ads on the wikis, but that's not a sustainable position for any wiki. However, logged in users on Monaco do not see any ads apart from on the main page now :)
Regarding the comments - my apologies, I thought I had removed the stuff that wasn't relevant to you. I have redone them to only show stuff useful to you.
Finally, regarding protection - fair enough. However, do remember "autoconfirmed" means accounts have to be at least four days old before they can edit it, so it cannot be the target of spur of the moment vandalism when so protected. Kirkburn (talk) 18:46, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, the other related wiki's aren't nearly as formed as this one, most of them only have 0-5 pages, using templates which don't exist on that wiki. Linking to them wouldn't really help the user, rather waste his time since most of the information isn't even on there. Then again, I suppose that brings up the community thing, "people can't contribute if they don't know it exists" -- Sixorish 20:14, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
I can't see what is still severely unbalanced in the columns.
According to Help:Main page column tags the Micropedia is using the Main Page tags and they are ridiculous.
I think add interlanguage links is a good idea, "our" users can help and see others wikis about Tibia in their own language.
<·> Hunter of Dragoes <·> My Talk <·> My Contributions <·> 01:44, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
Interlanguage codes should all be present now - if you have more to add and they don't work, just ping me on my talk page.
For the columns, unless you have a very small browser width, the right column goes down much lower than the left. It's not "broken" or anything, but you might want to add some content to the left side. Micropedia appears to be using the tags incorrectly, I'll see about fixing it. Nevermind, I misread. I believe the others were created by volunteers who had no knowledge of "what's missing". Isn't the language similar to Finnish? 'cause I've seen a fair few of those in my play time, but have never seen an Estonian in Tibia. -- Sixorish 05:15, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

--- Yes it is similar to Finnish, there are plenty of estonians, but most are in Hiberna.

I wouldn't create a new wiki with another language if you aren't sure you have a target group (people who speak that language, play tibia, like to read the wiki, and have low english knowledge) if one of these things isn't true for your estonian community you'll get a wiki with only a few articles, or you get a wiki with quite a lot of articles, all done by 1 person, nobody reading it. Think about that first, see the other multi language tibia wiki's in the TibiaWiki:Tip/Oct 2008. ^^ Bennie (talk ~ fellows) ^^ 05:48, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

featured~

It's wednesday and still no featured npc/item/monster, are there problems doing it or did any admin just forget it? ;P
Xomoda (talk~*~rares) 10:33, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Nah, I didn't forget it, there is no problem either, it's just hard to be creative every week and think of something new/interesting. The featured articles for the next couple of weeks (all weeks except this week) are not protected, so go ahead and do a few in advance, if you would like to. ^^ Bennie (talk ~ fellows) ^^ 15:19, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

About links to tibianews.net worldmap

Dont know where to put this, but since it affects a lot of articles on this wiki, I add it to the Main Page discussion.

I noticed that links to www.tibianews.net/worldmap... dont work anymore, the pages cant be found. Has the worldmap feature been removed completely or have just the urls changed, so that the links could be repaired somehow? If they cant be repaired, is there a possibility of removing them (except by manually stepping through all articles...) so that wiki readers dont get "frustrated"...?

Barathorn 07:21, April 18, 2010 (UTC)

Well i think that the tibianews maps are under maintance because when you go to their website and click on worldmap to the right you can't click on it, but i remember doing so before so its just a guess, lets hope its back soon :) 289martin289 07:53, April 18, 2010 (UTC)

Tibianews has been updating/changing their webpage, but they are still not done with it. They used to have the worldmap in an asp (active server page) format (the url was www.tibianews.net/worldmap.asp) but they are changing their site to php. They can't just simply change the page from asp to php, some code needs to be rewritten to let it work again. They are working on this, but I think it will still take them ~2 months if their fast and ~6-12 months if they work at their normal speed. This is indeed a serious problem, since A LOT of tibiawiki pages have tibianews map links. I'm not sure if it's possible to remove them, but I'll add it to the sitenotice (the message you see on top of every wiki page) to inform casual visitors. If someone has a great idea for a good solution, I would be glad to hear it! ^^ Bennie (talk ~ fellows) ^^ 10:10, April 18, 2010 (UTC)

Ok, they are hidden now. Well, not all of them but that must be a caching error, probably takes ~24 hours before it completely works. ^^ Bennie (talk ~ fellows) ^^ 14:15, April 18, 2010 (UTC)

Should we email their admins and try and find a resolve? Like us hosting it or something.

I'm already talking with Cantinelle about this (on the fansite board), the hosting is not the problem, they need someone with knowledge of flash to fix it. I took a look myself, but my knowledge is far too little to fix it. So it's probably just waiting and waiting until they find someone to program it. ^^ Bennie (talk ~ fellows) ^^ 09:37, April 21, 2010 (UTC)

Week 30, 2010 Poll

The Week 30, 2010 Poll is incomplete. I have been banished for PKing in the old days (Before black skulls were around) multiple times, but I'm not able to select this as an option as whoever made the poll must be a newer player and did not include this method of banishment. Anyone wanna get an admin/whoever made the poll to add that as a option onto the poll? Thanks, MrVerry 12:58, July 26, 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately the poll would be reset if it was changed, and since a number of people have already voted, their votes would be lost. New event!

Hello, in this month have another event, the Bewitched.

Thanks, I just saw all dates are simply available here, so I'll add all of them to the event template. -- Bennie (talk ~ fellows) 12:25, January 2, 2011 (UTC)

"news"?

There have been many instances where we wanted to get important information across to the community but had no effective means of doing so, such as when we had severe spamming of malicious links, when we were changing external map links to internal Mapper links, when we began this reform of NPC trade system, the initiation of loot statistics (and later Daniel's parser) and specific vandalism targets (e.g. the Very Noble-Looking Watch) and so on. The idea is that, rather than putting a notice in MediaWiki:Sitenotice (since Oasis does not support that), we add a notice on e.g. Main Page/Noticeboard (or some other article), and have it listed in place of one of the featured articles. I think viewers would feel more connected with the community if they knew what was happening. It doesn't need to be actively updated to note every single edit - just important information the community should bear in mind while viewing, or news of tasks they could help us with (i.e. the tedious edits involved in updating information)

Just throwing this idea out there. Tell me what you think. -- Sixorish 07:50, January 8, 2011 (UTC)

I like it. Just above the poll section?
Craggles ಠ_ಠ TalkContribs 08:16, January 8, 2011 (UTC)

Good idea, go for it. Maybe put an ifexist to only transclude it if there is new news? Btw, this has only little to do with this subject, but I have some extended tibiawiki stats from November I could forward to you guys, for me it was shocking to see how much Brazilian people are visiting tibiawiki.. -- Bennie (talk ~ fellows) 08:47, January 8, 2011 (UTC)

Done, hope you like it. In two weeks Template:News should show a blank
Craggles ಠ_ಠ TalkContribs 10:41, January 8, 2011 (UTC)

I don't like the current style. Specifically, the scrolling is annoying to work with or is too small, and the [edit news] link looks strange under the graphic. Here's how I'm thinking it should be:

News From the TibiaWiki Staff

Golden Newspaper
  • As of January 12, 2011 Hunter of Dragoes replaces Bennie in the function of fansite contact person.
  • Head to TibiaWiki:Projects to see what we're currently working on.
  • Placeholder1
  • Placeholder2
  • Placeholder3
  • Placeholder4
  • Placeholder5
  • Placeholder6

Basically just a little bit larger.

Is it possible to perhaps archive the news so that we can link to extended stories? For example, the first message just says what happened, but it says nothing about the implications this has on the community, which would be archived and we could link to it in the short news.

Another problem I think we face is the Wikia sidebar (again...), the Wikia/Oasis skin is going to make this box so thin that there are about three words per line. That would make it even more annoying to scroll down. -- Sixorish 04:36, January 19, 2011 (UTC)

Ugh, wikia skin. Didn't think of that. As for the height, I didn't want to force my code in there and take loads of space. If you want it taller, it can be done.
Craggles ಠ_ಠ TalkContribs 07:56, January 19, 2011 (UTC)

Good idea, it's much better now. ^^
Concerning the archive suggestion, we could use a subpage of Template:News/Latest to each news, or create something like TibiaWiki:News.

I'm sorry for what happened. All I can offer you is a piece of advice: any person can edit articles on the wiki, it is why the wiki is so successful, but unfortunately, some vandalism does sneak through. It was removed because it is false information, the editor who put it there was then blocked from editing.

I would like to suggest you always take information on this website with a grain of salt, especially during update time, because a lot of false information is spread around to scam players, and, sadly in your case, you have fallen victim to one of these scammers... -- Sixorish 18:44, July 7, 2011 (UTC)

Chat

Hello!

Why there is no chat available on this wiki? Is it because Tibia has its own communication mechanism and "Help" channel? I think if a noob comes here he'd like to find quick answers on Wiki Chat. Do you, admins of this wiki, know about the chat? You can find it in Wikia Labs.

Cheers,

Andre from Rohan.

Wasn't that a reason why Wikia Answers was created? To answer questions users may have? I feel that if a user cannot find the answer quickly within the wiki, we are doing something wrong! That is what we should be addressing, not allowing another means for obtaining information but enhancing the search function of the wiki or creating relevant redirects for easier finding.

I think more than anything, people will misuse the chat and spam external links, particularly to websites which exploit browser vulnerabilities. The wiki is currently protected from anonymous edits because of this - we can't quickly and efficiently handle these severe types of vandalism. Even worse is that we can't moderate chat, can we? Then we can't filter these links, and TibiaWiki will get a bad reputation because people will have their systems and accounts compromised. We do NOT want that, and I hope nor do Wikia. Even if we can moderate chat, most of our administrators do not use the Wikia skin either out of dislike or nostalgia. We (or at least I) would not switch to the Wikia skin to moderate a real-time chat. -- Sixorish 21:49, July 19, 2011 (UTC)

I don't think a chat would bring many positives aspects, 1st of all we would need moderation 24/7, and that assuming it is possible to moderate and delete hacklinks, my second issue with this is that it would make people go more mentally lazy, I know many people that even when seeing a spoiler, it doesn't come to their minds or they simply don't want to click the links of a NPC name or a map "here" to see more data, I hate that kind of laziness. --Daniel Letalis 21:58, July 19, 2011 (UTC)

I have the same sentiments as Sixorish and Daniel Letalis on this. I think if people wanted quick answers they would ask their friends or in the various chat windows. People wanting answers through the chat would have to sign up first anyway and while more users may be a good thing, we would need more trustworthy people to maintain the chat and check whether the language etc. is appropriate. This just seems to me like it's much more hassle than it would be worth. That, and it cannot be viewed with the Monobook skin which I think is much more editor and navigational friendly. Beejay 22:05, July 19, 2011 (UTC)

Navigation...

I'd like to ask your opinions on changing this "Popular articles" box. At the present, the list is as follows:
Achievements
Allusions
Calculators
Creatures

Game Worlds
Hometowns
Hunting Places
Items
Keys
Library
Loot Statistics
Loot
Mapper
NPCs
Objects
Outfiter
Premium Account
Quests
Runes
Scam
Shops
Spells
I have bolded ones that I do not think fit here because I don't see anybody actually using them. In today's community, vast majority of players are focused on gaming and not on the behind-the-scenes information (allusions, DYK, shops, ...). What I suggest is a categorical list somewhere else, e.g. TibiaWiki:Popular Articles, which will list articles that are important but which aren't really popular. We need to aim for a short list of articles on each page, because (1) long lists hinder its usefulness and (2) it may affect search engine results... -- Sixorish 02:40, August 3, 2011 (UTC)

Appropriate featured creatures?

I was considering running a bot to generate featured creatures based on data from kill statistics in the last day/week/month. What do you guys think about this? Of course it would have to be regulated (I see client patches bringing significant drops in kills for rotworms, rats and so on as bot developers update their software..) and be based on relative differences (rotworms growing +2000 kills/day means less than Ghazbaran growing +2/day).

It won't be done very soon as I'm working on another project, for now I'm just looking for thoughts on this. At the moment I don't see featured creatures as an important part of the wiki, it's largely neglected too (personally I don't visit the main page at all although it is definitely the most important page). -- Sixorish (talk) 18:37, August 9, 2012 (UTC)

I'll go a bit off-topic here.

I think the main page should show featured articles instead of random creatures/items/npcs. Featured articles would be pages considered good enough to be put on the main page, it could be any page as well as creatures, npcs and items. —Arkshi (Talk | contribs) 20:25, August 9, 2012 (UTC)

I agree with Arkshee, let's consider a major re-organization of the main page. It should become the main hub linking to articles, both dymanically and statically. The list of popular articles can stay but a tag cloud with most visited articles can be added. -- Bennie (talk ~ fellows) 19:50, August 10, 2012 (UTC)

removed other languages tibiawikis

I removed other languages tibiawikis because as far as I know we don't own them and they are used to hack people now and then. If you own any and constantly monitor it against spam and hack stuff, feel free to add it back. --Daniel Letalis (talk) 23:43, October 3, 2012 (UTC)

I was going to do that long ago but have forgot to. None of these wikis were updated neither have been fighting spam, so I agree it was better to remove links to them. —Arkshi (Talk | contribs) 00:19, October 4, 2012 (UTC)

What do you guys think about translating our interface instead? I know we can't fully support a multilingual wiki, but we could translate things like "name", "buy from", "sell to" in our templates and leave user-generated content English (like notes and more prosaic articles). Just an idea... -- Sixorish (talk) 00:34, October 4, 2012 (UTC)

I think is better people don't stay lazy, learn a bit of English, even if it is for those basic words, sometimes people don't even try to use google translate, but just for curiosity, on translating templates, what system could we use? I can only think about javascript. --Daniel Letalis (talk) 01:01, October 4, 2012 (UTC)

In a world which is globalizing more and more, we would do non-native English speakers a favor, to keep everything English. I know Tibia helped me to learn some English when I was in my early teens (in addition to the school program ofc). I think offering good quality content is more important than offering multiple languages. -- Bennie (talk ~ fellows) 08:41, October 4, 2012 (UTC)

If the community is against this then the multilingual wikis should never have been created or linked to, to begin with. I have no problems with keeping it as it is, but I can see us losing a lot of viewers because there are translations available at other fansites for those people who are lazy or don't understand English; they'll just go elsewhere for their information.

But since this seems to have unanimous agreement, we should search for every language interwiki link. I remember a lot of them being added in the past. -- Sixorish (talk) 10:03, October 4, 2012 (UTC)

I agree with Sixorish, TibiaWiki could be more attractive to players from non-English speaking countries. After all, they are the majority in Tibia. I don't know, though, if that would have a significant impact. We can give it a shot and think about similar ideas.

Hunter of Dragoes (Talk · Contribs · Admins) - 10:35, October 4, 2012 (UTC)

I reckon that if part of the wiki is in a user's native language, user's may attempt to edit the rest of the content to be in the same language, believing that's how it should be. I don't think there's enough of the interface to warrant the change when the important/most used information would remain in English. Besides, doesn't Google Chrome automatically ask to translate content in a different language? But it's not something that I would mind, providing that users don't start trying to change the Wiki's language. Beejay (talk) 14:57, October 4, 2012 (UTC)

Featured pages during new years season

I've noticed, and so has probably everyone else, that the current featured creature, NPC, item and poll is from week 1, 2012. This is due to the current year still being 2012, while the week that started today is week 1 of 2013. Revamping the Main Page

Hey all,

I came up with an idea how to revamp the main page. As I said earlier it should be a hub from where visitors easily find their way to the things they are looking for. I propose to at least replace the featured npc/creature/ and link list with "tiles", see here for a testing example. It works if you preview it, you should see a random image (out of 4 options) everytime you refresh (preview) it.

What I made so far was just to demonstrate how it works and test if it would work, more style adjustments are always possible. Before I continue though, I would like some feedback. I realize the concept is not original, in fact I took all code from different sources and merged it together, but personally I don't mind. So what do you think? -- Bennie (talk ~ fellows) 20:12, March 24, 2013 (UTC)

I like the idea, I assume it will be possible to keep the features we currently have (news, poll, about TibiaWiki, etc)? We could also start displaying only one featured article like other wikis do. Instead of choosing random featured creatures/items/NPCs we could put a page that is considered of exemplary quality. — Arkshi 00:02, March 25, 2013 (UTC)

The effect is cool but the colors do need some work. I actually don't agree with alternating images because there should be just one image symbolic of items, npcs, etc.. Also, I think these images should be static, and grouped in a single file (css sprites), to minimize HTTP requests when loading the page. -- Sixorish (talk) 06:47, March 25, 2013 (UTC)

My girlfriend, who I'd class as the average atheistic user , doesn't like it all that much. Personally I don't like the colours and the waiting time. I'm particularly against any sort of windows 8 styling as I feel it's very unnecessary.
Craggles ಠ_ಠ TalkContribs 07:57, March 25, 2013 (UTC)

I think our main page is way too long (vertically) right now, you should be able too see everything in one glance. That's why I think big chunks of text could be scaled down to a 150px tile.

@Arkshi, I think we should sanitize a bit and remove some of those features. We can keep the poll and the news section (with different colors maybe), but "about tibiawiki" would be a tile which links to another page.

@Sixorish, yes performance and colors need work. I liked the idea of a random image, but it's not a deal breaker.

@Craggles, I'm not a native english speaker, what does the atheism of your girlfriend have to do with here opinion on this matter? I agree the windows 8 styling is unnecessary, but it looks cool though.

Would you say to completely drop this idea? Or would you give it a "GO" with some adjustments? -- Bennie (talk ~ fellows) 10:39, March 25, 2013 (UTC)

It was a massive typo - aesthetic is what got auto corrected.
I've asked her for a bit more of an opinion, she says that at the moment it doesn't look as professional as our current main page. It shouldn't be cut completely, at the moment the colours and the font aren't amazing. I agree our page is too long and a revamp is in order; I'm just not sure this is the right path to follow
Craggles ಠ_ಠ TalkContribs 10:53, March 25, 2013 (UTC)

I also like the idea! I'm not sure on how the page is supposed to be changed, but I guess this is simply throwing out ideas. Whether this is focused on a complete revamp or for the centre or left column of the page, I think there can be different sizes used, such as if the right column were also to be revamped there could be mini boxes so that the page isn't somewhat mismatched. Yeah the colours need TibiaWikifying and that's something that can be easily changed. Just wondering though, is there any particular reason why this isn't currently working as it should on Wikia's skin? Beejay (talk) 16:44, March 25, 2013 (UTC)

Another idea for revamping the main page is to have a 'collaboration of the week/month' (I'm thinking cities or quest spoiling pages because they can be made large enough) where the community focuses on one page to improve it as much as possible (that's not to say 'stop everything you're doing and focus on this' but to highlight a particular page is being worked on) this could help right after major game updates where new quest lines are introduced.

We could also have a general 'featured article' like Arkshi suggested, the goal of the collaboration of the week would be to raise an article to featured status. -- Sixorish (talk) 23:38, March 30, 2013 (UTC)

Just an efficiency thing - instead of one page for each featured Item/NPC/Creature just have one page with a date and page title.

Week 19, 2006 | Mirabell
Week 20, 2006 | Petros

I think we are overdue for some change and have no objections to the ideas stated so far. --DM ><((°> Contribs <°))>< talk to me 00:59, March 31, 2013 (UTC)

A follow up to my comment from 9~ months ago.
I think it would be nice to to reduce the necessity of creating a page for every featured NPC/Item/Creature, since the only content on each page is a page name with Featured template, e.g. {{:Jorge|Featured}}. At it's simplest it can be a switch statement where each argument is the "Week, Year": "16, 2024". If page is needed can have default NPC to show or a fake NPC page with note to add an NPC for that week.
{{:{{#switch:"{{#expr:+{{#time:W}}}}, {{#time:Y}}"
| "48, 2013" = Jorge
| "49, 2013" = Benjamin
| "50, 2013" = Mirabell
| "51, 2013" = Petros
| #default = Jorge
}}|Featured}}</p>

Jorge Jorge (Adventurer)
Location: Adventurers' Guild.
Notes: Implemented in the first half of the Summer Update 2013. Part of the Hunting for Tokens Quest. After starting his quest, you can trade with him.

The risk of this approach is people breaking the switch statement somehow. A way around that is listing the "Week, Year" and page name on each line of "TibiaWiki:Featured_XXX" page and a template to handle the logic, including if the "Week, Year" does not exist. I cannot think of a convenient way to do make template, so i am wondering if someone has a simple solution that does not need to be maintained or if just having the switch statement is sufficient. --DM ><((°> Contribs <°))>< talk to me 19:43, December 1, 2013 (UTC)

Update 10.02

Hi all, there was an update which isn't in the list, and I couldn't work out how to add it. Could somebody do so or inform me of how to? Thanks.

Updates/10.02

Do you mean the list here: Updates? You could just edit the page if you want it be added there. -- Bennie (talk ~ fellows) 13:20, June 28, 2013 (UTC)

Feature Requests

I feel like users (certainly in game) want changes to be made to the wiki but don't know how to do it themselves or ask. Would a section as large ass the news sections dedicated to feature requests be useful? A sort of click here to submit a bug or request style thing?

I'd like something like this but here's the main problem: in order to make a feature request on this wiki you need to log in. If someone can log in, chances are they can make changes themselves or ask an admin for help. -- Sixorish (talk) 01:47, April 1, 2014 (UTC)

Something like the ProblemReport feature, we used to have back in 2008 or something? See e.g. TibiaWiki_talk:ProblemReports/12408. I see 2 options:

  1. A MediaWiki plugin, possibly made by Wikia, which gives anons the right to report tickets.
  2. Placing an iframe on the mainpage, just including an external website, which contains a php page with a form to submit problem reports, but I assume this is not possible for security reasons.

Questions from a New player

Hello there,my name is Leviat in the game of Tibia. I have only started yesterday and beat the tutorial only. I was curious as to which server would be best for an English speaker who enjoys Roleplaying and a active and somewhat peaceful server(as in I won't get murdered for no reason at all.) I hope to get some feedback quickly,so I appreciate the readers taking time to read this Noob's words.

If you have premium, I'd suggest playing on the kind of new Retro-PVP server Morta. It's very active and has alot of English speakers. If you're not into Retro-PVP, don't have premium or don't want to wait in que, then the Open-PVP server Antica might be a good choice. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bazir03 (talkcontribs). I have during my Tibia years done quite a lot of edits but still I am not whitelisted. :/
How do I get "whitelisted" as a tibia.wikia.com editor?

Bewitched shoul be removed from the main page. From this year on it will take place in June-
