Distance to Target
SnowFire asked a question that I am also curious about.
When using a distance weapon, does the distance to your target affect the damage inflicted? Is this variation different for different distance weapons?
In my experience (as a sorcerer, not a paladin), when using spears or small stones, if you are directly adjacent to your target, you seem to "miss" more frequently...alot more frequently, but I do not know if distance to your target affects the damage inflicted.
Anyone else have info on this?
My experiences thought me that if there's 1 square between U and the creature, you seem to hit the most. The further you move, the less you hit. 1 exception is standing against the target, then you miss a lot too.
I'm a paladin myself, and based on my experience I don't think it really matters how far you are from the creature you are attacking, as long as you're not too far (because crossbows can't shoot bolts all over the screen) and not too close (if you're next to the creature, it seems you miss more). I would love to believe the "1 square" theory but from my personal experiences I can tell you that I strongly doubt it.
back when I played a rookie, I used to trap the minotaur on the mountain and shoot spears, 1 sqm between us seemed to hit more often and more damage (I tried the whole platform), though its probably changed -- anyway, I want to know how the attack power of ammunition is determined, e.g bolts don't have "Atk:30", do you test it on a player wearing no armor? how would power bolts, or arrows be determined? --Sixorish 17:53, 24 May 2007 (PDT)
bolts damage can be determined by comparing your max damage with spears (attack 30) you'll find you have the same max damage

the % of hits is greatest with all distance weapons when the target is 2 sq away, followed by 3 sq, then 1sq and 4 sq which are equal%, then 5,6... the maximum chance of hit when target is 2 sq away with a one handed distance weapon is 75%. as the increase in distance fighting skill counts double when one makes a hit it is best to stand two sq away with something to break targets shield. this works very effectively with summoned monks from other players. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Monti macaroi (talk • contribs). I did a test to see the miss percentage when you are right next to a monster vs one square away. I only did 100 hits each test and they both came out to be an 18% chance to miss. However at two squares away the chance to miss was 26%. That seems very high and wrong but I do not feel like doing anymore tests. This was with a 93 distance skill level. It is also proven that standing on a diagnol between 2-3 square metres from the target will produce higher hit percentages.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Elusivv (talk • contribs). Remember to sign your comments! 09:58, January 17, 2019
