Revision as of 20:18, 10 September 2008

Welcome

Feel free to discuss things among admins. Ask things to admins, propose new ideas etc. Reporting a vandal can also be perfectly done here, but is not really the intention of this page. Also note that this page doesn't has the same function as TibiaWiki talk:Community Portal.

Template for newcomers

As some wikia staff guy suggested here, we should make a template and put it on talkpages of new contributors (with red links of their talkpages in Special:Recentchanges. The link of the template is: Template:User Welcome. Please feel free to: edit the template to improve it, help the community by putting it on talkpages.

No it's not! -cough-

User:Sixorish/Sandbox2 - will require some more help pages, since there's not a whole lot on the wiki. -- Sixorish 08:28, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

I would recommend that this template be put only on a user talk page that have made at least one edit, since it would be a waste of space to do it on inactive accounts, especially ones a year old or more. --DM ><((°> Contribs <°))>< talk to me 14:28, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Of course, but if you put it on a a talk page of someone you see in the recent changes he obviously made one edit or more (otherwise he wouldn't be there).

Any particular reason why we use the subst? works fine without it.. Also, should we be signing our "comments" (meaning just the template) or just throw the template up there? -- Sixorish 05:48, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Bennie, i was more referring that it would not be a good idea to go through group of users and "welcome" every single one.
Sixorish, subst will actually write in the code of the template in the talk page; without subst the talk page will call the template every time someone goes to that talk page. 'Subst' is easier on the server by not calling the template every time. As to signing, if you have to tell them something else, like correct a mistake, then sign. Otherwise it is not necessary, but your choice if you wish.
--DM ><((°> Contribs <°))>< talk to me 18:28, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Is a "normal user" like me allowed/encouraged to post the welcome template on a user talk page?

--Temahk (TalkContribs) 10:43, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

@Sixorish, subst is really required I think.
@Temahk, yes. I think every user has the right to welcome other users. Not if it's used for vandalism of course, but I don't think people would abuse it, probably only the more dedicated tibiawiki users will welcome others.

What do you think about the new TibiaWiki's logo?

<·> Hunter of Dragoes <·> My Talk <·> My Contributions <·> 18:38, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

I think it's too small. It is 135px wide, but my monaco sidebar is quite a bit wider so it looks too small, because it doesn't really fill up the whole place it could fill up. But I understand incompatibility problems with other skins if it gets wider. So it should be ok now.

Revamp Hunting Places

I'm planning on revamping the hunting places. I want to fit every page about a hunting place in infobox, like items, creatures, objects, npcs already have. On the page Hunting Places there will be a list template (like the others) making it way easier to overview and stuff. When I have something finished I will post it here so you can reply and give feedback. Stay tuned :)

Ok, I made the template (Template:Infobox Hunting Place) and tested the Dusalk's Troll Clan Cave on my test page. I know it is very crappy and has lots of problems, so please give me some feedback :)

I really think you should remove that image. Can't see anything on it and it doesn't add anything. Just remove it. If needed, images can be added to the notes (using the gallery function).

I would change "City" to "Closest City" or "Nearest City", as hunting grounds tend to be out of town.

I would also change "Level" to "Level Range", as a hunting ground will never be for just 1 level.

The NPC list is pretty pointless, unless you state what purpose the NPC serves.

Maybe you could turn the monster names into images, so people can see what monsters they possibly encounter? Don't really know if this is helpful/wanted, it might "spam" some hunting grounds with a ton of images..

--Temahk (TalkContribs) 14:36, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback,

  • I know the image is bad, but I want to keep some kind of image. I was thinking, a map something would be in all different ways too large or not detailed enought for 64x64px. So what about putting in the image place an image of the monster which is most common in the hunting ground. So in the example a troll, in a dragon lair a dragon etc.
  • ok city is changed.
  • ok level is changed.
  • the npc list is not useless, it is good to know what npcs hang around in your hunting place.
  • in the quest infobox the monsters are also just names, not images. The problem comes when the monster lists in the old design are seperated into different levels/places. Do you put them into one list? That's actually too bad. I might noinclude the maps and seperate monster lists from the infobox and keep them on the page, as a compromis.

I like the idea of using the predominant creature in a hunting ground as the image, in part since there can be many maps and some are too large for that space. There may be some debate about what the predominant creature is, but that is not a big issue. You would have to put an image line in the template, rather than using the article name.
To clarify, use "Local NPCs" or "Nearby NPCs" for the NPC line. I like the idea overall, but it may not look as good with the creatures list, which i think should stay as it is now. The template can be adapted in more ways to accomodate this. It would be a different style than all the others, but is ok as long as all Hunting Grounds have the same template. I will try out some templates to show what i mean, when i have time... --DM ><((°> Contribs <°))>< talk to me 15:39, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Consistency would be nice, however in my opinion some things are better left freely-written (in that sense, without being stuck in a box) Things like level ranges, location etc. are fine in it, but things that small wouldn't even be worth a 100% width table. Personally I was thinking general information in a small box like you find on many Wikipedia articles, Wikipedia:Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within for example (but the image in it would be degrading) -- Sixorish 12:19, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Very good solution sixorish! I think it's worth considering. DM, I'm eager to see your ideas too. For now, we have all the time we want so we shouldn't rush a decision.

^^  º Bennie º  ¤ Talk ¤  º Admins º  ^^ 14:59, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Using the template used on Wikipedia (the FF thing), this is the result: User:Temahk/Sandbox5.

Can't really include more information in the box in the right, unless we widen (?, make it more wide) it. Image can be included in the box of course, but I don't think it adds that much to it..

--Temahk (TalkContribs) 08:29, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

That's a lot better, thanks. I'm gonna improve it a bit more and then try it out. Because we now have one header for creatures and one for maps. But like in cyclopolis you want to have a seperate header for every level with creatures and maps. I think we need to keep that, even if it gets quite long.

MediaWiki Upgrade - 1.13

We recently upgraded to MediaWiki 1.13; theres a forum @ wikia to report bugs relating to it; w:Forum:MediaWiki 1.13 upgrade. There's a few problems with the wiki:

  • Special pages has been changed (probably intended, not sure)
  • Minor edit box when editing is gone
  • Template:Equips Set (maybe more?) is not working as intended.

There might be more problems; not quite sure. Post here if you notice anything -- Sixorish 13:22, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Yes, this morning it changed. The special pages intended to be like that. Doubleredirects fixes automaticly and check this new special page out. template equips set hasn't changed due to the mediawiki upgrade, it was already bugged before (I mean the fact you see a link under it saying #ifeq:yes). What do you mean with that minor edit box thing? I don't understand.

See this. there is no "This is a minor edit" box.. -- Sixorish 13:33, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Loot/Hero Cave Star Room Page

That article should be divided into two: one to loot list from Hero Cave and another to loot list from Star Room. After somebody do it the article named "Loot/Hero Cave Star Room" should be deleted.
