Melee combat in Tibia refers to the act of engaging in close-range combat with various weapons, including swords, axes, clubs, and even your fists. Unlike Distance Weapons, Rods, Wands, Runes, and Spells, melee combat requires direct physical contact with the target.

Melee Weapons[]

In Tibia, players have a variety of melee weapons at their disposal, each with its unique characteristics and strengths. The main melee weapon categories are:

  • Swords: balanced weapons regarding attack and defense
  • Axes: generally having a higher attack value than defence
  • Clubs: generally cheaper, but with the low cost being offset by them being some of the heaviest weapons
  • Fist Fighting: allowing players to use their bare hands to engage in melee combat. It will not match the damage of weapons, and for Knights it will not allow the use of most spells, as they require weapons to be equipped

It is worth noting that the definition of what makes a weapon better or worse involves several factors, including availability and price, damage type, imbuement slots, Augments, etc. With each game update, new weapons and hunting areas can be added, as well as rebalanced, influencing what can be considered the best melee weapon in the current meta.

Damage Types[]

Melee attacks in Tibia historically would predominantly cause Physical Damage. However, with the introduction of Enchanting, weapons became able to deal elemental damage. After Enchanting was removed from the game, imbuements became another way for weapons to inflict elemental damage of various types, except for Holy Damage. Furthermore, melee weapons with native elemental damage were created, not being able to be imbued with elemental imbuements. These weapons come with built-in elemental attributes, such as the Grand Sanguine Battleaxe with Death Damage, the Grand Sanguine Razor with Energy Damage and the Grand Sanguine Bludgeon with Earth Damage.

Calculating Melee Damage[]

The formula for calculating melee damage in Tibia involves several factors, including the weapon's attack value, the character's skills, the target's armor, Mitigation, and other bonuses.

It is worth noting that character skills, such as Sword Fighting, Axe Fighting, and Club Fighting, play a significant role in determining the efficiency of melee attacks. By improving these skills, players can enhance their damage output.

Melee combat remains an essential aspect of Tibia's gameplay, mostly for Knights, but also for situational occasions where paladins can off-tank.
