Tibian levels represent the experience of a character. The more experience, the more levels a character will have. All characters start at level 1 when they first enter the game, in the Tutorial Island. They gain experience by killing monsters, bosses, or by completing certain quests. At level 8, a character is allowed to leave the initial islands (Rookgaard or Dawnport).
The amount of experience needed for the next level will increase for every level a character gets. As far as is known, there is no limit to the number of levels that can be gained. On the official website, the full experience table lists how much experience is needed to reach a certain level. Although that table is not always kept up to date, and there have been occasions where players gained levels still not listed on it. When Eternal Oblivion reached level 270, there was a "tibia server database, level limit" that prevented him from gaining certain advancements for his level.

Benefits & Scaling[]
Every time a character gains one level, they receive:
- Extra health points.
- Extra mana.
- Extra capacity.
- One extra speed.
- One extra promotion point (for characters above level 50).
Level has a direct effect on spell and melee damage. Since October 18 2022 (patch 13.05.12657), the scaling of damage and healing was adapted to:
- Until level 500: no change, damage and healing +1 every 5 levels
- As of level 501-1100: damage and healing +1 every 6 levels
- As of level 1101-1800: damage and healing +1 every 7 levels
- As of level 1801-2600: damage and healing +1 every 8 levels
- As of level 2601-3500: damage and healing +1 every 9 levels
- Above level 3500 it continues with the same logic (steps of 500, 600, 700, etc.)

Players often celebrate certain levels as milestones. This is a list of levels that have some significance, and the reasoning behind them.
- 8: Beginning of Mainland adventures.
- 20: Vocation Promotion, quests Desert Dungeon Quest.
- 40: Quests Orc Fort Quest, the djinn war (green and blue), 1,000 mana (Druid & Sorcerer)
- 41 - 42: 1,000,000 experience.
- 50: Quests Black Knight Quest, Deeper Fibula Quest, Thieves Guild Quest.
- 51: Access to the Wheel of Destiny
- 60: Access to Demona.
- 70: Vampire Shield Quest.
- 80: Quests: The Pits of Inferno Quest, Wrath of the Emperor Quest, and Behemoth Quest.
- 100: First triple digit level, quest The Inquisition Quest.
- 250: Quests Feaster of Souls Quest, Soul War Quest, Primal Ordeal Quest, Rotten Blood Quest
