A Head Gamemaster (sometimes abbreviated as HGM) is a paid CipSoft employee whose job is to monitor, advise and supervise the GM community as a whole.
All GMs must report to him (or her) for special assignments and with special case interests which need guidance or approval from CipSoft.

When CIP first implemented Wizards, the original Gamemaster, CipSoft themselves supervised their workers. As the community grew so did the volunteer aid. The name changed to Gamemaster and soon there were two ranks, the higher being a Senior Gamemaster. Initially all GMs were volunteers and Seniors simply had more experience and more trust. A further split was made that Senior GMs were only the paid staff. Eventually all volunteers were just Gamemasters and paid staff became Community Managers.
