Concept[]

A character is a Tibian identity of someone who plays Tibia. Your character is your graphical representation in-game, and he or she will do whatever you tell him or her to do, limited to the game's possibilities.
When you create a character and log in with it, the character (also called char) appears in Dawnport.

Note: You can have 20 characters and 5 deleted characters on the same account.

Graphically[]

The graphic appearance of a char is divided in three parts: The character's graphic representation itself (the "outfit"), the name of the character and his or her hitpoints. It is possible to hide the name and the hitpoints by pressing Ctrl+N or just the name by pressing Ctrl+N twice. Pressing Ctrl+N once again will revert everything back to default.

Gameplay information on characters[]

Characters, as true heroes, grow during their adventures. Each character starts with the same amount of experience and skills, and it's up to you to raise yours. This can be done throught slaying monsters, completing some quests and training.
Once per day, there's a server save on all worlds, that will save your advancement on your character; thus, there's no other way to lose the upgrades you've done on him or her until you die, or a server reset takes place.

Technical State[]

Character's can have three technical states: online, offline, and pending.
Once a player logs into their account and selects a character to play that character moves from the offline state to the pending state and will just see the splash screen of their client. At least on the Flash Client that character's name on a VIP list or chat channel will appear orange. Once the character enters the game their status changes to the online state.
The purpose of the pending state is to add some safeguards. Before the pending state was added in Updates/9.8 a character could be considered online before the screen loaded and so they could be attacked and not know it. Now they are only online when the screen fully loads. Also when a character dies they now enter the pending state, instead of offline, and if the reenter the game their channel content will be preserved from before the death, they will not lose their party status, and if the character contributed to killing a creature they will be counted among the killers.
