You can't use this and Protector spell at the same time, one spell will cancel the other.
Blood Rage increases only the base fighting skill and loyalty skill points, it doesn't affect the bonus from weapons and equipment. This spell is useful to cast before facing a creature that would otherwise drain all your mana, such as a Priestess or Dwarf Geomancer.
