BattlEye is client-side software which tries to detect if users are using cheating software while playing an online game. On February 15, 2017 CipSoft announced it would integrate BattlEye into Tibia. This integration started on March 21, 2017, at which point the BattlEye software started running in the background of anyone with a stand-alone Tibia client, but only to gather data would be necessary for the full anti-cheating software implementation.
The integration of BattlEye into Tibia presented a new strategy of combating cheating. Instead of trying to detect and punish cheaters, BattlEye prevents players from playing while using any other software that it considers suspicious. For this reason, servers released with active BattlEye protection are said to be cheat free, and for this reason will probably be closed for transfers coming from servers that were already "contaminated" by cheaters for a very long time.
The game worlds Honbra, Noctera and Vita were the first ones to be actively shielded by BattlEye, on April 18, 2017. Since then, CipSoft slowly activated the protection on other Game Worlds in steps. Currently all worlds are actively protected, except for the Experimental Game Worlds Zuna and Zunera.
Experimental Game Worlds are the only worlds that are not planned to be actively shielded by BattlEye. By doing so, CipSoft expect these worlds to be an option for players who reported that they experience technical issues with BattlEye.
Green and Yellow BattlEye[]
There are two categories of BattlEye protected Game Worlds:
- Green: Worlds that have been protected since their launch and cannot receive characters from Yellow BE Worlds.
- Yellow: Worlds that were launched before BE was introduced or that are open for characters transferring from other Yellow BE worlds.
This distinction was created upon the introduction of BattlEye in order to shield newer worlds from Gold and items possibly obtained by cheating, specially Botting, by not allowing any character to transfer from "old" (Yellow) to "new" (Green) worlds. The opposite transfer direction, however, is allowed, but once the transferred is complete the character will never be able to return to his previous green world. This BE transfer restriction works independently from the PvP type restrictions.
On multiple occasions since December 2017, however, CipSoft has introduced new Game Worlds located in Brazil with Yellow BattlEye type, allowing players from South America playing on other Yellow BE worlds to transfer and play with a lower latency. These worlds are Kalibra, Gentebra, Inabra, Quelibra, Lutabra, Celebra and Yonabra.
The BattlEye type is also an important factor on Game World Merges, and only worlds with the same type of BE protection can be merged together.
There are currently 37 Yellow BE Worlds and 44 Green BE Worlds.
