Throughout the lands of Tibia, NPCs, locations, literature, and lore refer and pay homage to other works, literary and otherwise. Some of these allusions are simple references to famous pieces, while others are based more extensively on external sources. Tibia contains many references to bones, and the game's very name is one of them. While these relations are not necessarily allusions because they do not refer to literary or similar works, these somewhat self-referential mentions of bones and other body parts are often found throughout the Tibian lands. The islands of Fibula and Calcanea, the landforms of Mount Sternum and Femor Hills, Villa Scapula and even the city of Thais reference these body structures along with the event creature Bones.

Bones represent just a small portion of references. Elsewhere in the world, allusions to literary works and life are found in many contexts. Some allusions may simply serve as inspirations or passing references, while others are nearly direct derivations of these famous works.

Brands

Many Shopkeeper NPCs take their names and goods from worldwide retailers. This trend is most noticeable on the island of Rookgaard, where nearly every shopkeeper's name bears a startling similarity to a real-life store. In the city of Venore, the famous Venorean Fashion Warehouse is home to many clothing designers whose names are similar to real-life fashion designers. While other cities have their own inspirations regarding NPCs, these two have clear and strong allusions to their respective themes.

Aldi		On Rookgaard, the equipment shopkeeper Al Dee is a reference to the international retailer, Aldi.
Aldo		Aldo sells leather boots and other clothing. This is an allusion to the worldwide shoe seller, ALDO.
Amazon.com		In the Venore Amazon Camp, there is a small room under one of the buildings. In this room is a mailbox and a large number of books. This seems to be a reference to the large mail-order book distributor, Amazon.com.
Armani		Irmana, the tailor assistant to Hugo in the Venore fashion warehouse, is an allusion to Armani, a fashion company.
Calvin Klein		Kalvin, Hugo's apprentice, is an allusion to Calvin Klein, a well-known American fashion designer.
Commodore		The phrase Error. LOAD 'PROGRAM',8,1 said by the servants seen during the Their Master's Voice World Change are an allusion to the LOAD command from the Commodore 64 and Commodore 128 computer systems which was used to load a program into memory for execution.
Corona		Maria, the owner of the Hard Rock Tavern, most likely owes her last name to the beer brand Corona.
Edeka		A grave at Rookgaard's largest graveyard refers to former shopkeeper Edee K. having been stabbed by Al Dee, who now runs the only tool shop in town. This is an allusion to the everlasting competition between German discounters Edeka and Aldi.
Falck		Outside Edron's north gate stands Falk, a guard. He is a reference to Group 4 Falck, a worldwide leader in security solutions, now under the name Falck.
Greyhound		Captain Greyhound is an allusion to Greyhound Lines, the famous US bus line.
Hugo Boss		Hugo, whose full name is Hugo Chief, is the owner of the Venorean Fashion Warehouse, and is an allusion to Hugo Boss, a major fashion house based in Germany.
Iglo		Captain Iglues Treasure Quest on Rookgaard is a reference to "Käpt'n Iglo", a German advertising icon for the brand Iglo, selling frozen food and fish. Iglue's treasure is salmon.
Ikea		The furniture seller in Ab'Dendriel is called Ukea, a reference to the international furniture seller Ikea.
Jim Beam		The bartender in Kazordoon is Jimbin, whose proximity to alcohol and name makes him a reference to Jim Beam, the bourbon brand.
Lidl		Rookgaard's Lee'Delle seems to be a reference to the international discount supermarket Lidl.
McDonald's		The farmer Donald McRonald is partly an allusion to Ronald McDonald, the mascot of McDonald's, an international fast-food restaurant chain. He is also an allusion to Old MacDonald Had a Farm.
Mercedes-Benz		A pair of gravestones in the Thais Graveyard mention the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, a moose, and electronic stability control, a reference to the A-Class's performance on the automobile moose test.
Microsoft		A grave refers to Mr. Bill G. and a window. Bill Gates was the Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft, the software company that wrote and maintains the operating system Windows.
Microsoft and Linux		A grave refers to a penguin killing a window, a reference to the competition between Microsoft and Linux, the latter often associated with a penguin.
Norma		Shopkeeper Norma is a reference to the German discounter, Norma. She wants to change her name to Marylin, so she's also a reference to Norma Jeane Baker (Marilyn Monroe).
Obi		Shopkeeper Obi appears to be an allusion to the German home-improvement store of the same name, OBI.
Richardson Allen		Allen Richardson, owner of furniture shop in Venore seems to be an allusion to Richardson Allen, an American furniture producer and seller.
Rolex		Norbert wears a stylish xelor watch. "Xelor" read backwards is Rolex.
Rosetta Stone		Commander Stone talks about his daughter, Rosetta, who is a linguist. Her name and occupation is a reference to the language learning software Rosetta Stone.

Famous and Historical People

As many RPGs do, Tibia makes references to historical and contemporary people in a variety of ways. Some Guard NPCs, for example, share their names with fitting celebrities, while some more historical and famous scientists and explorers were alive under similar names and shared their knowledge in some of Tibia's many books. Some other allusions are only mentioned briefly in quotes, but the strength of these connections makes these references clear to those who know to look for them - connections like the desert city of Ankrahmun, to Tutankhamun, the most famous of Egyptian pharaohs.

Aleister Crowley		Alistair Cropwell was an explorer who discovered a city full of black magic. He is a reference to the occultist Aleister Crowley.
Alfred Nobel		Ned Nobel sells fireworks and is the son of scientist and dynamite inventor Alfred Nobel.
Arnold Schwarzenegger		Like the other guards in Venore, Arnold is a reference to a famous action movie star: Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Bozo the Clown		Bozo, the royal jester in Thais, is an allusion to Bozo the Clown.
Charles Darwin		Author and scientist, Dave Charlwin is a reference to Charles Darwin. The Unnatural Selection Quest is a further reference to Darwin's work.
Christo		Erayo has a task to shroud Thais castle in cloth. The artist Christo is famous for his artwork along a similar line.
Danielle Steel		Governor of Edron Daniel Steelsoul was most likely named after American novelist Danielle Steel.
David Copperfield		The name of this magician is David Brassacres, an allusion to famous show magician David Copperfield.
Isaac Newton		Isaac Brewton claimed that Satanic forces were responsible for gravity. He is a reference to famous scientist Isaac Newton.
Jack the Ripper		The pirate boss Ron the Ripper is an allusion to the serial killer Jack the Ripper.
Jean-Claude Van Damme		Like the other guards in Venore, Jean Claude is a reference to a famous action movie star:Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Gaius Marius		The minotaur boss General Murius is an allusion to Roman general and politician Gaius Marius.
Henricus Institoris		Lord Inquisitioner Henricus refers to Henricus Institoris, one of the highest-ranked inquisitioners of the 15th century.
Klaus		Pirate Klaus is an allusion to Klaus Badelt, a famous film scorer who composed the even more famous score for the film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
Mary I of England		According to Jimbin, his wife Maryza was given the sobriquet Bloody Mary by humans as she likes to cook with bloody meat. This is a reference to Mary I of England, who was nicknamed Bloody Mary after executing many Protestants.
Mata Hari		Rata'Mari, the undercover spy, is a reference to World War I spy Mata Hari.
Neil Armstrong		A quote by Angus, And remember: it's a small teleport for you, but a big teleport for all Tibians, is a take on a quote by astronaut Neil Armstrong.
Nietzche		A pair of gravestones refer to Nietzsche's famous "God is Dead" statement.
Nikola Tesla		Scientist and inventor Telas is a reference to and anagram of famous scientist Nikola Tesla.
Richard Garriott		A gravestone pays homage to Lord B (Lord British), a name taken on by Richard Garriott, whose Ultima series greatly influenced Tibia.
Robin Hood		Robin, the huntsman and paladin in Thais, is a strong reference to the famous English outlaw Robin Hood.
		Rottin Wood, a hunter and leader of a band of Married Men is also a strong allusion to Robin Hood, who was said to be the leader of a band of Merry Men.
Saint Boniface		Bonifacius, the food seller in Edron, may be named after Saint Boniface, a missionary who is sometimes credited for starting the tradition of the Christmas tree.
Sarah Emma Edmonds		Emma, the head of the CGB, is a reference to Sarah Emma Edmonds, a US Civial War spy for the Union.
Siegfried and Roy		The rotworm trainer Humgolf claims to have sold a rare white worm to Frietsiek and Yor whose names can be rearranged to relate to the show duo Siegfried and Roy.
Spartacus		Hairycles says that Spartaky helped the apes fight for their freedom. This is a reference to Spartacus, the leader of a slave revolt in Rome.
Sun Tzu		Both the lizard boss Battlemaster Zunzu and the treatises found in Demona by Zun Su on combat refer to Sun Tzu and his famous Art of War.
Sylvester Stallone		Like the other Venore guards, Sylvester is an allusion to a famous action movie star: Sylvester Stallone.
William Kidd		Captain Kid, the former captain without a reputation of the pirates residing in The Cave, is an allusion to Captain William Kidd, one of the world's most notorious pirates.
William Tell		Willem, a paladin on the Island of Destiny, loves to shoot apples off other people's heads. This makes him a reference to Swiss folk hero William Tell, who once shot an apple off his son's head.
Wyatt Earp		Wyat, the sheriff of Thais, is an allusion to the famous American sheriff Wyatt Earp.
Zarathustra		The warlock boss Zarabustor has a name similar to Iranian prophet and inventor of magic Zarathustra.

Literature and Mythology

Like many roleplaying games, Tibia has strong ties to fantasy literature and classic mythology. The beginners' island, Rookgaard, has strong ties to Norse lore and mythology. The island's name is similar to the realms of Midgard and Asgard, a claim further supported by the presence of a bridge guard and the the Norse-named Cipfried.

J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and associated anthologies, the quintessential sources of modern fantasy inspiration, are featured prominently three of Tibia's earliest and largest cities. The names of the NPCs in Ab'Dendriel and Thais might look familiar to players with a knowledge of Tolkien's lore. The dwarven city of Kazordoon similarly bears a remarkable resemblance to the famous Khazad-dûm, the city ruled by Durin, the king of the Dwarfs.

Baba Yaga		Yaga the Crone and quotes by her appear to show a strong relationship between her and Baba Yaga, a witch in Polish and Russian folklore.
The Bible		The Holy Tible owes its name to the Bible, though its praise of the god Banor could have it refer to any set of scriptures.
The Big Bad Wolf		The Big Bad One is probably an allusion to the Big Bad Wolf from many fairy tales.
The Old Man and the Sea		The fisherman Santiago and his pursuit of a giant fish mark him as an allusion to the protagonist of Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea, Gregorio Fuentes.
The Call of Cthulhu		Thul's name and the general appearance of Quara Constrictors may be inspired by the fictional Cthulhu.
Cerberus		Zerbrus, a Rookgaardian bridge guard, owes his name to the mythological figure of Cerberus, a multi-headed dog that guarded the path to the underworld.
A Christmas Carol		The banker Ebenizer is thought to have been named after the greedy Ebenezer Scrooge from A Christmas Carol.
Die 13½ Leben des Käpt'n Blaubär		Captain Bluebear may owe his name to the fictional explorer and captain in the humorous fantasy, novel Die 13½ Leben des Käpt'n Blaubär.
Dorian Gray		Dorian is an allusion to the protagonist of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray. Wilde's Dorian committed his crimes for beauty, this one for money.
Dracula		Vladruc is an anagram of the name "Dracula". Also, a quote by this vampire, Oh yes, the children of the night ... you dwellers in the city cannot enter into the feelings of the hunter is taken from the novel Dracula.
		Armenius may be a reference to Arminius Vambery, thought to have been a reference Bram Stoker used when writing his Dracula novel.
Dune		Muhad, whose full name is Muhad ib Lisan al-Gaib, is an allusion to the science fiction franchise Dune, where the Fremen term for off-world prophet is Lisan al Gaib.
		Glooth is an allusion to the melange ("spice") playing an important role in the Dune universe. Both are produced by worms and can be used in order to produce a wide variety of products, and are even known to extend life span. When saying "glooth" to NPC Terrence he responds with The glooth must flow. This was derived from the similar phrase in Dune, The spice must flow.
Excalibur		The famous lost sword Excalibug is named after Excalibur, the sword from Arthurian legend.
The Flying Dutchman		The literary Flying Venorean is an allusion to the famous ghost ship The Flying Dutchman.
The Frog Prince		The boss monster The Frog Prince is a famous character in folklore, originating in the brothers Grimm fairytale The Frog Prince.
The Grinch		The Grynch Clan Goblins and their present stealing are references to The Grinch from Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
Hannibal Lecter		Lector, a butcher whose father was named Hannibal, seems to be inspired by the fictional serial killer Hannibal Lecter.
Harry Potter		Fluffy, a three-headed dog, shares his name with a similar creature from the fantasy book Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
Heart of Darkness		Harlow, a ferryman, is an obvious reference to Marlow, the ship captain and main narrator of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness.
Heimdall		Dallheim's name is a take on that of Heimdall, a Norse god and guard of the bridge between Midgard and Asgard.
Hercules		The ape leader, Hairycles, is a strong reference to the Hercules of Greco-Roman mythology.
Hermes Trismegistus		The magician and astrologer Trimegis may be an allusion to Hermes Trismegistus.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy		A pair of books titled Important Facts From Galactic History volumes I and II contain direct quotes from Life, the Universe, and Everything, a novel in Douglas Adams's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series.
		The mysterious Babel Swimmer could be a reference to the Babel Fish that appears throughout the series.
Knecht Ruprecht		Ruprecht, Santa Claus's assistant, is based on Knecht Ruprecht who accompanies Saint Nicholas in German folklore.
Koschei		Koschei is a figure from Slavic mythology who, like his Tibian counterpart Koshei the Deathless, cannot be directly killed.
The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams		Grizzly Adams and his pet bear Ben are characters from the novel The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams.
Mephistopheles		Mephiles, the Isle of Evil boss is a reference to Mephistopheles, a demon that originally appeared in literature in the Faust legend, and he has since appeared in other works as a stock character version of the Devil.
Moby-Dick		Captain Haba and his search for a sea serpent are analogs of Captain Ahab and his hunt for the whale Moby-Dick.
Needful Things		Leeland, the owner of the Useful Things Warehouse, is an allusion to Leland Gaunt, the owner of Needful Things, a fictional store and the title of a Stephen King novel.
Odyssey		Cyclops Smiths sometimes say "Outis emoi g' onoma" ("No one is my name"), which is a quotation in ancient Greek from Homer's Odyssey (book 9, verse 366). These words were originally uttered by Odysseus after he had blinded cyclops Polyphemus.
Redwall		The Corym are an allusion to Redwall. They are a reference to the core of resistance in the Mossflower woods, a group of mice and other small creatures known as the Corim.
Richelieu		The flavor text of the Poet's Fencing Quill reads: This feather is mightier than a sword., an allusion to the famous line "the pen is mightier than the sword", present in the play Richelieu; Or the Conspiracy written by popular 19th century playwright Edward Bulwer-Lytton.
Robinson Crusoe		Robson and his assistant Lunch are an allusion to Robinson Crusoe. Not only are the names similar, Robinson also lived in a hut constructed on the island he got stranded on and also named his only friend there after the time they met.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs		A room in a Kazordoon mine shows a witch, seven dwarfs, an apple, and a sleeping figure, an allusion to the fairy tale of Snow White.
Treasure Island		Treasure Island might be an allusion to the novel Treasure Island and the treasure buried there.
Tristan und Isolde		Tristan and his love Isolde are the primary characters in the famous opera Tristan und Isolde.
Twelfth Night		One of pharaoh Vashresamun's quotes, If music is the food of death, drop dead, is a play off of the first words from the play Twelfth Night, If music be the food of love, play on.
Where's Waldo?		Missing postman Waldo and a mission to find him may be related to the Where's Waldo? puzzle book series.
Wyrd Sisters		The in-game book Wyrd Sisters by Terry P. is inspired by the novel Wyrd Sisters by author Terry Pratchett.
Xena		The amazon boss Xenia might be an allusion to the fictional warrior princess Xena.

Fires of Mordor		When asked about Excalibug, Pydar says that it has to be returned to the fire which gave birth to it, just as the One Ring needs to be returned to the fires of Mount Doom.
Frodo		Frodo, the owner of Frodo's Tavern, owes his name to Frodo Baggins, one of the protagonists of the Lord of the Rings.
Gandalf		Gundralph, the spell instructor at the Noodles Academy of Modern Magic might be named after Gandalf, the famous wizard.
The Hobbit		One of the fortunes of the Mysterious Voodoo Skull, Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup, parodies a quote from The Hobbit, Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger.
Legolas		Legola, leader of the Carlin Paladin Guild, owes her name to Legolas, one of the protagonists of the Lord of the Rings.
Melian		Altough in Tibia Melian is a male NPC, Melian is the Queen of Doriath, possibly the most important "woman" of the Maia race.
Morgoth		Morgaroth, an archdemon in the Triangle of Terror, might be named after Morgoth, the outcast Vala and antagonist of The Silmarillion.
Samwise Gamgee		The weapon shopkeepker Sam might be named after Samwise Gamgee, one of the protagonists of the Lord of the Rings.

The Flash		Like other Yalahar guards, Barry is likely an allusion to a comic book character. In this case, he possibly shares a name with Barry Allen, the real name of The Flash.
The Green Arrow		Like other Yalahar guards, Oliver is likely an allusion to a comic book character. In this case, he possibly shares a name with Oliver Queen, the real name of The Green Arrow.

Many creatures and NPCs seem to be fans of the silver screen. Dwarfs, in particular, are movie buffs, with different creatures quoting famous lines and the Kazordoon Library being home to many parodies of James Bond films. While many references to film and television are in the form of quotes, some are manifested in creatures and NPCs as embodiments of their respective allusions.

Back to the Future		The name of the Jack to the Future quest has a strikingly similarity to the film Back to the Future. The movie, like the quest, involves time traveling.
Casablanca		A statement by Bonelords, Here's looking at you, is a portion of a famous quote from the movie Casablanca.
		This same line is part of the description of the Icy Glare achievement.
The Day the Earth Stood Still		A statement by War Golems, Azerus Barada Nikto, is a reference to the famous line Klaatu barada nikto from the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still.
Dr. Strangelove		The Mad Technomancer sometimes says Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!, a direct quote from the movie Dr. Strangelove.
The Fast and the Furious		Lighfoot is, along with his fellow racing dog Dustrunner, labeled as The Fast and The Furious, a film about racing.
Forrest Gump		When asked the keyword stupid, Hoggle responds My mom always said, stupid is who stupid does, a quote from the movie Forrest Gump.
The Godfather		The Mad Technomancer sometimes says I'm going to make them an offer they can't refuse, a direct quote from the movie The Godfather.
		A take on this same quote can sometimes be heard out of the mouth of trade baron Mr. West, viz. I'll make them an offer they can't refuse.
King Kong		A giant footprint of a holy ape in the Forbidden Lands may be a reference to the famous fictional monkey King Kong.
Labyrinth		The maze of tall grass, the NPC Hoggle, the nearby grave of Didimus, and the nearby shopkeeper Lubo, may be references to the film Labyrinth and respective characters of Hoggle, Didymus, and Ludo.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E.		Uncle, the head of AVIN, Venore's secret agency, is an allusion to The Man from U.N.C.L.E. from the 1960's spy television show.
Married... With Children		The world-weary shoe salesman Aldo may be a reference to a similarly disgruntled salesman Al Bundy from the show Married... With Children.
Masters of the Universe		The Rookgaard skeleton boss, Teleskor is a spin on the name Skeletor, the antagonist of He-Man in the Masters of the Universe franchise.
		Forest Furies will sometimes say "By the power of Greenskull!", a reference to He-Man's battle-cry "By the power of Grayskull...".
Monty Python		A book in the desert dungeon refers to the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, a weapon from the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
		The fearsome, but harmless-looking rabbit, Hugo, may refer to the similarly innocuous, yet lethal rabbit from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, as do Killer Rabbits on the Isle of Evil.
		The Riddler asks inane questions such as What is your favorite color? just like the Bridgekeeper in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Being sent to Hellgate for answering incorrectly is also similar to being cast into the Gorge of Eternal Peril.
		Undead Jesters sometimes say And now for something completely different!, which was a catchphrase from Monty Python's Flying Circus and the name of a Monty Python film.
Mothra		Anmothra, the moth-like incarnation of Devovorga, could be an allusion to the fictional Japanese character Mothra.
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic		The name of the 15th mission of The Gravedigger of Drefia Quest is a reference to the tagline of a cartoon by the My Little Pony franchise: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
A Nightmare on Elm Street		The intersecting roads Dream Street and Elm Street in Venore may be an allusion to the Nightmare on Elm Street series of horror films.
The Postman		Kevin Postner, the Postmaster General of the Tibian Postal Service, is an allusion to Kevin Costner and his role in the movie The Postman.
Sesame Street		The Count and his weakened form are allusions to Count von Count from the show Sesame Street as illustrated by his statement 1... 2... 2... Uh, can't concentrate when weakened.
The Simpsons		Librarian and master of the Rookgaard Academy, Seymour may be an allusion to the principal Seymour Skinner from the show The Simpsons.
		The foulmouthed farmer Willie might be a reference to the groundskeeper with the same name and a foul temper in this same show.
Starsky and Hutch		Harsky and his partner Stutch, guards of King Tibianus, are an allusion to the police drama Starsky and Hutch.

Star Wars		A fortune by the Mysterious Voodoo Skull is Do or do not. There is no try. Yoda gives Luke Skywalker this advice in the second Star Wars film.
Tales from the Crypt		This book, written in-game by an unknown necromancer, shares its name with the famous fantasy/horror show, Tales from the Crypt.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles		The weapons, tortoises, and rat in a locked room in the Liberty Bay sewer make up an allusion to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Woody Woodpecker		The furniture shopkeeper Iwar Woodpecker, may be an allusion to the cartoon character and show Woody Woodpecker.

Live and Let Die		Like his other quotes, the Dwarf Henchman references the Bond film Live and Let Die.
Miss Moneypenny		Penny, the secretary of the Isle of Solitude, may be an allusion to Miss Moneypenny, M's secretary in the Bond films.
The World is not Enough		The dwarven book The Mine Is Not Enough is named after The World Is Not Enough.

Tibia isn't all that dull! While there may not be sound, certain elements of the game try to capture the essence of their favorite real-life songs and artwork. From famous singers disguised as simple shopkeepers to famous bands performing at the local tavern, the music scene on Tibia isn't as empty as it is silent.

Although Tibia was originally greatly inspired by the Ultima series, it has managed to reference a few other popular games, mainly in passing references, but sometimes with dedications of whole areas of the game.

Killing in the Name		The quest Killing in the Name of... is an allusion to a song by Rage Against the Machine.

Mona Lisa		The Mina Losa painting acquired in The Thieves Guild Quest is an allusion to the famous Mona Lisa painting.
Old MacDonald Had a Farm		The farmer Donald McRonald is partly an allusion to the farmer in the famous nursery rhyme Old MacDonald Had a Farm. He is also an allusion to McDonald's.
Prince		Oswald claims that Bozo is The artist formerly known as the prince. The musician Prince once went by the artist formerly known as prince.
Queen		The pharaoh Morguthis sometimes says, Another one to bite the dust, an allusion to the song Another One Bites the Dust by Queen.
		Combat instructor Salbra on the Island of Destiny sometimes says "It's a kind of magic!", a direct quote from the song A Kind of Magic by the very same band. In addition, the pharaoh Rahemos has this quote at his disposal as well.
Stone Temple Pilots		The name of ship captain Stone Temple Parrot is an obvious reference to the band Stone Temple Pilots.
This is not a lever		There's an art piece at the Museum of Tibian Arts that shows a This is not a lever! message when used, a clear reference to The Treachery of Images painting by René Magritte, in which a Pipe is painted above the saying This is not a pipe.

Avatar		Avar Tar, the Edron hero always on a quest for King Tibianus, is a reference to The Avatar, the protagonist of the Ultima Series.
The Bard's Tale		The strange text, IRKM DESMET DAEM, found on a note on a wall in a Rookgaard cellar is also found in a dungeon in the original The Bard's Tale video game.
Castle of the Winds		The Ab'Dendriel guildhall Castle of the Winds might be an allusion to the rogue-like computer game Castle of the Winds.
Castlevania		Vampire hunter Julius may be an allusion to the vampire hunter of the same name from the Castlevania series. Vengoth Castle bears some resemblance to the video games' castles and the related Castlemania achievement lends some additional strength to the allusion.
Chrono Trigger		The Lavos Armor is a direct reference to Lavos, the arch enemy from the SNES game Chrono Trigger, who dwells in the depths of the Earth.
		The insectoid Kollos has a clear resamblance with Lavos and its spawns.
Command and Conquer		A gravestone in the Thais Graveyard refers to the programmer of C&C, the computer game series Command and Conquer.
Dance Dance Revolution		A mission during the Unnatural Selection Quest is called Dance Dance Evolution, an allusion to the video game series Dance Dance Revolution.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim		Commander Stone asked for his job replies After I accidentally shot a fellow adventurer an arrow in his knee I had to leave for some safe place far away in a hurry. This is an allusion to a line spoken by every guard in Skyrim: I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee.
		When you hit an Adventurer by using a bow he will exclaim Arrrgh! Not my knee!. This is also an allusion to the line above.
		Combat instructor Shanoya on the Island of Destiny sometimes says "Master the bow to shoot an arrow in the knee!". Again, this is an allusion to the line above.
Half-Life		A piece of paper relates a message from Dr. Kleiner to Gordon about teleporters. Dr. Kleiner and Gordon are characters from the popular Half-Life series and both are scientists who work with teleporter technology.
Mario		In the Realm of Dreams, "someone" is sleeping in the room. A statue by the Gate of Expertise reads: Another Castle. This references Mario's well-known phrase the princess is in another castle.
Mortal Kombat		Fatality and Flawless Victory!, a quote by the demon Ghazbaran, are phrases from the video game series Mortal Kombat. Additionally, the mission in The New Frontier Quest Fatality appears in is called Mortal Combat.
Pac-Man		A secret room in one of Ankrahmun's tombs has the same layout as a level from the arcade game Pac-Man, complete with teleporters, fruits, and ghosts.
The Secret of Monkey Island		I braved the Annihilator and all I got is this lousy teddy bear is an allusion to The Secret of Monkey Island's legendary treasure: a T-Shirt. When you look at it, you can read: "I found the Legendary Lost Treasure of Mêlée Island and All I Got Was this Stupid T-Shirt."
		A book in the Royal Archives of Thais writes about an inhabitant named Threpwood Guybrush, a refference to Guybrush Threepwood, the main character of the Monkey Island Series.

It is often said that art imitates life. As such, several areas and organizations in Tibia show strong resemblances to real-life counterparts.

FBI		The Tibian Bureau of Investigation is an allusion to the American intelligence agency, the FBI.
Fortress of Solitude		The Isle of Solitude, an island that acts as the Gamemaster headquarters, is an allusion to the Fortress of Solitude, Superman's headquarters in the Superman series of DC comics.
Hard Rock Cafe		The Venorean Hard Rock Tavern is an allusion to the rock and roll themed Hard Rock Cafe.
KGB		The Carlin Girls Brigade is an allusion the the Soviet Union's intelligence agency, the KGB.
Norwegian Islands		The ice islands of Senja, Folda, and Vega share their names with the real-life Norwegian Islands Senja, Folda, and Vega.
Titanic		The Greenshore guildhall, the Tibianic is named after the famous ship the Titanic.
